India: Those in touch with opposition free to leave TMC: Mamata

Kolkata, Dec 4 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday issued a stern warning against "anti-party activities" and said TMC leaders in touch with the opposition are free to quit the ruling party in the state.

Although the TMC supremo did not take any name, party sources said that her jibe was at disgruntled leader Suvendu Adhikari, who has recently resigned from her cabinet, and a few other MLAs who have spoken out against the party top brass.

India: ED seizes Vijay Mallya's French asset worth Rs 14-cr

New Delhi, Dec 4 (PTI) Businessman Vijay Mallya's property worth Rs 14 crore located in France has been seized under the anti-money laundering law, the Enforcement Directorate said on Friday.

It said the action was undertaken by French authorities "on the request of the Enforcement Directorate" and the property bears the address: 32 Avenue FOCH in France.

The value of the seized asset is Euro 1.6 million that is worth about Rs 14 crore, the central probe agency said in a statement.

India: RSS-affiliate BKS suggests 4 amendments to farm laws

Jodhpur, Dec 4 (PTI) RSS-affiliate Bharatiya Kisan Sangh proposed on Friday four amendments to the three contentious central farm laws to make it "farmer-friendly" and address the apprehensions that have led to protests.

Thousands of farmers have gathered at Delhi's gateways to demand a repeal of the new farm laws. The protesters are worried the legislations would eliminate the safety cushion of a minimum support price (MSP), while rendering ineffective the wholesale market system that ensures earnings for various stakeholders in the farm sector.

India: Seven held under anti-conversion law in UP

Sitapur, Dec 5 (PTI) Seven people were arrested under Uttar Pradesh's new anti-conversion law for allegedly abducting a Hindu girl from her home in Sitapur district, police said on Saturday.

The main accused, whose brother and brother-in-law are among those arrested, is absconding, they said.

The incident took place on November 24. According to the girl's mother, Jabrael has also been missing from the village ever since, the police said.

India: Garbage spot turns into badminton court in Jajmau

Kanpur: Disturbed with the insanitation in front of their houses, the locality residents thought it out to first clear the dirty spot and then furnish it by encircling the place with green cotton.

The whole space has been developed as a badminton court. Talking to the youths who were playing badminton in the evening hours told: We are happy to change the use of space. Now there is no dirty smell and filth here. Everyone appreciates our efforts.

India: BJP’s surge in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation poll stuns TRS

Hyderabadn; 04 Dec 2020 (UMMN): BJP has emerged as the second-largest party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections dislodging the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) from half of the seats it had held.

BJP seats went up from 4 in 2016 to 48, while the TRS numbers came down from 99 to 55 - well short of 65 seats to get the mayor’s post.

India: HC asks jail officials to shift Jamia student to guest house for exams

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Thursday directed the jail authorities to forthwith take Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) student Asif Iqbal Tanha, arrested in a case related to the northeast Delhi riots earlier this year, to a guest house to enable him to study and appear in examinations scheduled from Friday.

Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri also asked the jail superintendent to permit the accused to take studying material with him and provide him other teaching material, if required.

India: Akhtar submits statement in defamation complaint against Kangana

Mumbai, Dec 3 (PTI) Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar on Thursday recorded his statement through his lawyer before a metropolitan court here in connection with the complaint of defamation filed by him against actor Kangana Ranaut.

Akhtar had last month filed a criminal complaint against Ranaut before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate, for allegedly making defamatory and baseless comments against him in television interviews. He had sought action against the actor under relevant sections of the IPC.
