India: CPI(M) activist stabbed to death by "RSS criminals": Vijayaraghavan

Kollam, Dec 7 (PTI) A 52-year-old CPI(M) activist was stabbed to death near here, allegedly by a BJP worker, police said on Monday.

Munroe Island resident Manilal was attacked last night by Ashokan (55), who was later arrested, they said.

CPI(M) state secretary in-charge A Vijayaraghavan said the killing was an attempt to disrupt peace ahead of polling for the first phase of the local body elections on Tuesday.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Reaches 9,608,211, With 36,011 New Daily Cases

NEW DELHI, Dec 6 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally reached 9,644,222 today, as 36,011 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, the latest data from the federal health ministry showed.

According to the data, the death toll mounted to 140,182, as 482 COVID patients died since yesterday morning.

Delhi has been one of the most COVID-affected places in the country. As many as 3,419 new cases and 77 deaths were registered in the national capital during the past 24 hours, with 26,678 active cases.

India: Man attacked by stray bull in UP, dies

Kaushambi, Dec 6 (PTI) A 35-year-old man died after he was attacked by a stray bull in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district on Sunday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Jagjeet, they said.

Jagjeet was going on his bicycle when the bull attacked him in Hisampur Dubra under Manjhanpur police station area. He died on the spot, SHO Manish Kumar Pandey said.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, he said.

India: Another Republic TV official accused get bail in TRP scam

Mumbai, Dec 5 (PTI) A court here on Saturday granted bail to Republic TV's western region distribution head Ghanshyam Singh, arrested last month in the alleged TRP (Television Rating Points) rigging scam.

Singh, who is also assistant vice president at Republic Media Network, had been arrested on November 10.

The sessions court also granted bail to Vishal Bhandari, a former employee of Hansa Research Agency, who had been arrested on October 8 in the case.

The order was passed by judge D S Deshmukh.

India: Bank unions lend support to farmers' agitation

New Delhi, Dec 6 (PTI) A number of bank unions have expressed their solidarity with farmers protesting against recently passed agri laws and requested the government to resolve the issue at the earliest.

The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) in a statement said the government should come forward and resolve their demands in the interest of the nation and farmers.

India: Petrol, diesel price increases again; rates touch 2-yr high

New Delhi, Dec 6 (PTI) Petrol price on Sunday was hiked by 28 paise per litre and diesel by 29 paise, the fifth straight day of increase in rates due to firming international oil prices.

Petrol price in Delhi rose to Rs 83.41 per litre from Rs 83.13. Diesel rates went up from Rs 73.32 to Rs 73.61 per litre, according to a price notification of oil marketing companies.

Rates crossed Rs 90-mark for petrol and Rs 80 in case of diesel in Mumbai.

India: Several donate blood at camp held in Jajmau area

Kanpur: A blood donation camp was organised at a residential complex at Nai Chungi in Jajmau area here on Sunday.

A large number of blood donors turned up at the place. The first among those who readied himself to donate his blood was a very thin person named Kashif.

When he was asked to comment on his very experience, he said: "I did not feel any kind of the pain or anxiety. There was absolutely no fear on my part. I came forward only because it was a big human deed."

India: SP spokesperson booked for 'derogatory' comments against Adityanath

Mau (UP) Dec 5 (PTI) A case has been registered against Samajwadi Party spokesperson in Uttar Pradesh's Mau district for allegedly making derogatory comments against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, police said on Saturday.

Two days ago, the spokesperson, Rajiv Rai, had raised a question mark on the action being taken against criminals by the district administration and the police. He allegedly made some objectionable remarks against Adityanath, Assistant Superintendent of Police Tribhuvan Tripathi said.

India: Haryana health minister tests COVID positive after taking trial vaccine fortnight ago

Chandigarh, Dec 5 (PTI) Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij, who had got one shot of the two-dose trial of COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin a fortnight ago after he offered to be a volunteer, on Saturday said he has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Vij, 67, had offered to be the first volunteer in the phase three trials for Covaxin, an indigenous potential vaccine being developed by Bharat Biotech against COVID-19. He was administered the dose on November 20 at the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment, about 50 km from Chandigarh.
