India: Modi doesn't behave like prime minister: Rahul

New Delhi, Feb 7 (PTI) Hitting back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "tubelight" barb, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said he does not behave like a prime minister.

"Normally, a prime minister has a particular status, a prime minister has a particular way of behaving, a particular stature, our prime minister doesn't have these. He does not behave in a prime ministerial way," he told reporters outside Parliament.

India: Delhi HC stays increase in auto fares by AAP govt

New Delhi, Feb 7 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the AAP government's decision to increase auto-rickshaw fares in the national capital.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar said, "We hereby stay the operation of the June 12 notification issued by the Delhi government till the next date of hearing."

India: Madhya Pradesh Cabinet passes resolution against CAA

Bhopal, Feb 5 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday passed a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act and sought its abrogation, contending the new law was against the Constitution's secular character.

The resolution was passed during the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Kamal Nath, public relations department minister P C Sharma told reporters.

India: Modi govt ignoring needs of soldiers

Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) Accusing the Modi government of ignoring the needs of soldiers, the NCP on Wednesday claimed that a "1965-like situation" may arise if they "continue" to face scarcity of basic facilities.

Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik made the remarks after a CAG report pulled up the government for delay in procurement of special clothing, equipment, snow goggles and multi-purpose boots that are required to be provided to soldiers serving in high altitude areas.

India: FIR against choreographer Ganesh Acharya for `sexual harassment'

Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Wednesday against Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya for allegedly sexually harassing a woman, the city police said.

The FIR, registered at Amboli police station, also named two women, Jayashree Kelkar and Preeti Lad, who are accused of beating up the woman on January 26.

286 people renounced Indian citizenship between 2016-18

New Delhi, Feb 5 (PTI) A total of 286 people have renounced Indian citizenship between 2016 and 2018, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said 19 people renounced Indian citizenship in 2016 and 60 others in 2017.

A total of 207 Indians have renounced citizenship in 2018 (till October 22, 2018), he said replying a written question.

India: 14-year-old rape victim dies at Jaipur hospital

Jaipur, Feb 5 (PTI) Days after she was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Rajasthan's Sikar, a 14-year-old girl died at a Jaipur hospital.

The girl was raped on January 27 by her neighbour, who also tried to strangle her, police said on Wednesday.

The victim was admitted to J K Lon Hospital in Jaipur after the incident and died on Tuesday evening.

Police said the victim was alone at home when Basant Meena, 20, committed the crime.

India: HAL inks pact with Israeli firm to develop UAV

Lucknow, Feb 5 (PTI) An MoU was signed between HAL and Israel's Elbit Systems during the DefExpo-2020 on Wednesday to assess the feasibility of joint development of an unmanned aerial vehicle.

The MoU is aimed at assessing the feasibility of a joint development of a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAV for maritime and land-based military operations, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said in a release.

India: Dalit outfit launches postcard campaign against CAA, NPR

Gorakhpur, Feb 5 (PTI) A lesser known Dalit outfit, Purvanchal Sena, has launched a postcard campaign against the CAA and the NRC.

The outfit has urged people to send postcards to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek the withdrawal of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act.
