Hamas says Gaza calm depends on Israeli actions in Jerusalem

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — A senior Hamas official said Monday that Israel must halt its “aggression” in both Gaza and Jerusalem if it wants calm following an 11-day war earlier this month.

Khalil al-Haya spoke after meeting with Egypt’s intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, who visited Gaza after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a trip aimed at shoring up an informal cease-fire brokered by Cairo.

Israeli army arrests 9 Palestinians in West Bank raids

30 May 2021; MEMO: Israeli forces rounded up nine Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank, according to a local NGO on Sunday, reports Anadolu Agency.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said the arrests took place in the cities of Jenin, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Hebron, and East Jerusalem.

"At least 45 Palestinians have been detained by the Israeli army in the West Bank since Friday," the NGO added in a statement.

Russia evacuates 64 citizens from Gaza

28 May 2021; MEMO: Russia evacuated 64 of its citizens, 31 of whom were children, from the occupied Gaza Strip during the recent Israeli aggression on the enclave.

In an official statement, the ministry said that the Russian citizens were evacuated "voluntarily on an official plane."

"There are still more than 400 Russians in Gaza," the statement read.
