ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan’s top court granted a six-month extension to the term of the country’s army head General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday, after initially blocking a three-year extension of his tenure.

“We leave this matter to parliament to make law regarding this,” Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said while delivering the verdict.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP): President Dr. Arif Alvi on Monday said that the fascist Indian regime was flagrantly violating the human rights of Kashmiris by revoking the special status of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK) and by suspending their civic liberties through the 113-day clampdown.

He said India’s aim of ultimately altering the demography of IOJK was in utter violation of numerous UN Resolutions and established human rights principles.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan Sunday termed China Pakistan Economic Corridor ( CPEC) as topmost priority of Pakistan.

In a series of tweets, she said this great corridor will open new vistas of economic development and prosperity for not only Pakistan and China, but also for the whole region.

Not concurring with the US concerns on the project, Dr. Firdous Ashiq said CPEC is a guarantor to our economic development.

MULTAN, Nov 24 (APP): Chairman Kashmir Committee Syed Fakhar Imam Sunday urged the opposition parties to avoid any controversial statement over the Kashmir issue as the incumbent government was striving to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Addressing a Kashmir seminar at an E-library here, he said the incumbent government was presenting the Kashmir issue very effectively at international level.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 23 (APP): The Ambassador of Norway was called to the Foreign office on Saturday to convey the deep concern of the government and people of Pakistan over the incident of desecration of the Holy Quran in the Norwegian city of Kristiansand.

“Pakistan’s condemnation of this action was reiterated. It was underscored that such actions hurt the sentiments of 1.3 billion Muslims around the world, including those in Pakistan. Furthermore, such actions could not be justified in the name of freedom of expression,” the Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 23 (NNN-APP) — Pakistani Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Muhammad Hammad Azhar, said that, the World Bank (WB) has reinstated budgetary support to Pakistan, due to economic stability in the country.

“The World Bank has restored budgetary support to Pakistan on account of strengthening of economic stability,” said the minister, adding that, both the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and WB had suspended budgetary support to Pakistan in 2017, due to rising macroeconomic imbalances that had arisen in the country’s economy at the time.

LAHORE, Nov 21 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday said Pakistan had become an investment-friendly country due to effective economic policies of the government.

He was addressing the 5th China Agro Chemical (CAC) Pakistan Summit held at the Expo Centre here.

Urging the international community to invest in the country, he said there was a vast scope of investment in the country especially in the agriculture sector.

He said friendship of Pakistan and China was exemplary and the both countries understood their regional and cultural matters.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 21 (APP): The Foreign Office on Thursday categorically said that Siachen Glacier was a disputed territory, which India could not open for tourism.

“India has made attempts to occupy the territory of Siachen. The disputed land cannot be opened for tourists,” Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said here at a weekly press briefing.

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had recently announced that tourists could access Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield between Pakistan and India, as both claim sovereignty over the entire territory.

ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (APP): In Indian occupied Kashmir, 108 days on, the residents of the Kashmir Valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu and Ladakh regions continue to simmer with anger and anguish over India’s illegal move of stripping the special status of the territory.

According to Kashmir Media Service, as part of a silent protest against this move and India’s occupation, people in the Valley have been staying away from businesses, educational institutions and offices. Public transport is also off the roads to a large extent.
