KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — When the plane jolted violently, Mohammad Zubair thought it was turbulence. Then the pilot came on the intercom to warn that the landing could be “troublesome.”

Moments later, the Pakistan International Airlines flight crashed into a crowded neighborhood near Karachi’s international airport, killing 97 people, all of whom are believed to be passengers and crew members. Zubair was one of just two surviving passengers.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Taliban and Afghanistan’s president announced late Saturday a three-day cease-fire ahead of a major Islamic holiday that begins Sunday to mark the end of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.

The Taliban order, which was soon followed by an announcement via Twitter from Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announcing the government “extends the offer of peace,” comes just days after U.S. peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad was in Kabul and Doha.

ISLAMABAD, May 23 (NNN-APP) – The death toll of a passenger plane crash in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi has soared to 80, while seven others, including people aboard and those on the ground were injured, police said.

Rescue teams shifted 48 bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and 32 others to the Civil Hospital Karachi, police sources in Karachi said, adding that, most of the bodies have been burnt beyond recognition and will be identified by DNA testing.

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — A jetliner carrying 98 people crashed Friday in a crowded neighborhood near the airport in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi after an apparent engine failure during landing. Officials said there were two survivors from the plane but they also found at least 57 bodies in the wreckage.

It was unknown how many people on the ground were hurt as the Pakistan International Airlines jet, an Airbus A320, plowed into an alley and destroyed at least five houses.

22 May 2020; MEMO: In a rare move, Pakistan sent medical supplies to the US on Friday to support its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Anadolu reports.

Pakistan’s ambassador to Washington Asad Majeed Khan said the donation was a “token of friendship and solidarity” with the US, which is the world’s worst-hit country with over 1.57 million cases and nearly 95,000 deaths.

Islamabad, May 21 (PTI) Pakistan conducted the highest number of tests per day during the last 24 hours as the coronavirus cases crossed 48,000-mark on Thursday, the health ministry said.

Pakistan recorded 2,193 new cases, taking the total number of infections to 48,091. The death toll stands at 1,017 with 32 new fatalities.

As many as 15,346 coronavirus tests, the highest in a single day, were conducted in the last 24 hours, health officials said.

The authorities have conducted 429,600 tests so far.

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Sunday said Modi’s Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) inspired extremist doctrine was very clear on Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K) where Kashmiris had been subjected to worst human rights violations and deprived of their right to self-determination as guaranteed by the United Nations Security Council.

In series of tweets, the prime minister mentioned the relentless oppressive and inhuman tactics, Modi’s government was pursuing in IOJ&K through illegal annexation and brutal use of force.

PESHAWAR, May 16 (APP): The government has announced the opening of the Pak-Afghan border at Torkhem and Chaman posts round the clock for six days per week, a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior on Friday(yesterday).

The border was closed on March 27 last month as a precautionary measure taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 virus. Later it was opened for three days a week in April.

According to the notification, a decision about the opening of the border was taken in the meeting of NCOC (National Command and Operation Center).

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Pakistan police claimed on Sunday morning to have killed four Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Bahawalpur district in the country's eastern Punjab province.

According to a spokesperson of the CTD, the security personnel conducted an operation on an intelligence tip-off in a forest near Azam Chowk area of Bahawalpur in the wee hours of Sunday.

At least four terrorists were killed in the exchange of fire while their three accomplices managed to escape from the site.
