Pakistan's anti-graft body approves 2 more corruption cases against former PM Sharif

Lahore, May 16 (PTI) Pakistan's anti-graft body has approved the filing of two additional corruption cases against embattled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who is currently in London for medical treatment.

Five corruption cases have been launched by the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan previously against the 70-year-old supremo of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz since his ouster from the office by the Supreme Court in July 2017 in the Panama Papers case.

Kalapani row: Nepal announces to deploy more forces at India border, says FM Gyawali

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Nepal will increase the number of security outposts and deploy more armed personnel at the border with India, Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali has announced.

The senior minister said Kathmandu expects India to avoid any unilateral measures in the Kalapani region and remain committed to the ‘fixed border’ principle as agreed during the past official talks, The Hindu reported on Sunday.

PAKISTAN: COVID-19 positive cases reach to 27,474 across country: NCOC

ISLAMABAD, May 09 (APP): The COVID-19 caseload in Pakistan had reached 27,474 with 618 new cases reported during last 24 hours, an official of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on coronavirus said on Saturday.

Sharing the data, he said that total 618 deaths had been reported from the disease with 24 reported during last 24 hours.

He said that 7,756 patients had been recovered. He added total 270,025 tests had been conducted while in last 24 hours 12,982 tests were conducted.

Taliban say they don’t have missing US contractor

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Taliban leaders searched their ranks, including the much-feared Haqqani network, and on Sunday told The Associated Press they are not holding Mark R. Frerichs, a Navy veteran turned contractor who was disappeared in Afghanistan in late January.

“We don’t have any information about the missing American,” Sohail Shaheen, Taliban’s political spokesman, told the AP in a message on Sunday.

EU provides150 m euros to strengthen Pakistan’s response to COVID-19 pandemic: EU envoy

ISLAMABAD, May 7 (APP): Ambassador of the European Union delegation to Pakistan, Ms. Androulla Kaminara, called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday and said the EU had allocated 150 million Euros to support Pakistan in its efforts to contain COVID-19.

She briefed the prime minister on measures by EU to strengthen Pakistan’s response to COVID-19 pandemic.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction on the growing momentum in Pakistan-EU bilateral relations.

Further steps to deepen Pakistan-EU partnership in all its dimensions were discussed during the meeting.

Pakistan coronavirus cases surge past 25,000, pace quickens: Reuters tally

(Reuters) - Coronavirus cases in Pakistan surged past 25,000 on Friday, just hours before the government was due to lift lockdown measures, with the country reporting some of the biggest daily increases in new infections in the world.

Pakistan rejects Indian allegations relating to indigenous Kashmiri resistance

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Pakistan on Tuesday rejected Indian allegations relating to indigenous Kashmiris’ resistance and said the recent incidents in the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJK) were reflective of the inescapable reality that India’s brutal campaign of violence and repression was meeting its logical consequences.

Attributing the indigenous Kashmiri resistance to any alleged “infiltration” was a travesty, the Foreign Office said here in a statement.

PAKISTAN: Indian violations of international norms worsening LoC situation

ISLAMABAD, May 05 (APP): Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar on Monday said unchecked violations of international norms at the Line of Control (LoC) was worsening the situation that might lead to a wrong direction at any time.

“Indian violations of LoC have risen many times in recent period and through this posture India is trying to externalize its internal situation through media rhetoric,” he said in an interview to a private news channel.
