Egypt, Israel FMs discuss solidifying ceasefire

Cairo, May 22 (AP-PTI) Egypt Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry has spoken with his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi, about stabilising the Cairo-brokered Gaza cease-fire deal.

A statement by Egypt's Foreign Ministry said the two diplomats on Friday discussed shoring up the deal, which has mostly brought a halt to fighting between Israel and the Palestinians. They hope that will facilitate the reconstruction of Gaza.

Egypt journalists body joins international legal action against Israel

18 May 2021; MEMO: Egypt's Journalists Syndicate Council said it has joined all international legal cases filed with the competent international bodies against Israel over its violations of international laws, amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity in Palestine.

In a statement, the council slammed Israel's "brutal attacks" amounting to "war crimes and crimes against humanity" against the Palestinian people across historic Palestine.

Egypt opens Rafah crossing early for Palestinian travellers

16 May 2021; MEMO: Egypt has opened the Rafah border crossing a day earlier than planned to allow the passage of students, people needing medical treatment, and other humanitarian cases, two sources at the border told Reuters on Sunday.

The border had been closed for the Eid al-Fitr holiday and was due to reopen on Monday.

Egyptian, Jordanian FMs discuss worsening Israeli-Palestinian conflict

CAIRO, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi discussed on Friday the deteriorating conflict in the Palestinian territories, Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

During a phone conversation, both ministers stressed the importance of continuing the work on an immediate means to stop the conflict in the Gaza Strip and prevent any Israeli provocations in Jerusalem, the ministry said in a statement.

Israeli airstrike targets senior Hamas official’s home — TV

CAIRO, May 13. /TASS/: Israel has carried out an airstrike on the home of Hamas Political Bureau Head Ismail Haniyeh in the city of Gaza, the Al Arabiya TV channel reported on Thursday.

According to the TV channel, Haniyeh was absent from his home at the time of the attack.

Palestine’s Wafa news agency reported earlier that Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip had severely damaged civilian infrastructure facilities and destroyed a six-floor residential building.

Egypt delegation in Tel Aviv for cease-fire talks: Officials

CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian delegation is in Tel Aviv for talks with Israeli officials as part of efforts to negotiate a cease-fire in the escalating conflict with Gaza, Egyptian intelligence officials said Thursday.

The two officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to brief the media. The same delegation met with Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip first, they said, and crossed into Israel by land. Egypt has played a mediating role in the past between the sides.

Egypt: Suez Canal chief says southern stretch to be expanded

(Reuters) --- The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) plans to expand and deepen the southern stretch of the waterway where a container ship became jammed and blocked traffic for six days in March, Chairman Osama Rabie said in a televised address on Tuesday.

Rabie presented the plan at an event attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who indicated that the project should be completed in 24 months at most.

Egypt to produce China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in June

CAIRO, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed said on Sunday that Egypt will start locally producing China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in June.

During a press conference in Cairo, the minister said that the first 2 million doses will be produced in June at the plants of the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA).

"We will receive the first shipment of the raw materials needed to manufacture the vaccine on May 18," Zayed told reporters, adding that 40 million doses will be produced in the first year.

Egypt announces signing investment contracts with 50 Russia companies

08 May 2021; MEMO: Egypt's Ambassador to Russia Ihab Nasr confirmed that 50 Russian companies have signed contracts to invest in the economic zone in eastern Egypt.

These investments are mainly based in Port Said and Ain Sokhna, near the Red Sea, and will provide a variety of Russian products.

Nasr did not state the value of the contracts nor the most prominent Russian company that signed the new investment contracts.
