Egyptian President Reiterates Full Support For Libya’s Interim Government

CAIRO, Jun 21 (NNN-MENA) – Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, reiterated yesterday, his country’s full support for Libya’s national unity government, during the transitional period.

Sisi made the remarks, during a meeting with visiting Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla al-Mangoush, the president’s spokesperson, Bassam Rady, said in a statement.

Egypt: New compensation offer made over Suez Canal blockage- lawyer

ISMAILIA, Egypt June 20 (Reuters) - The owners of a giant container ship that blocked the Suez Canal in March have made a new offer in a compensation dispute with the canal authority, a lawyer for the authority said on Sunday, as a court ruling on the case was postponed for two weeks.

The Ever Given container ship has been anchored in a lake between two stretches of the canal since it was dislodged on March 29. It had been grounded across the canal for six days, blocking hundreds of ships and disrupting global trade.

16 June 2021; MEMO: A former presidential candidate in Egypt has been rearrested by public prosecutors, local media have confirmed. Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh has been in pre-trial detention since 2018. He was due to be released on 18 February following the expiry of the term by which he could legally be held, but this too was "extended".

Egypt upholds death penalty for 12 Brotherhood members

14 June 2021; MEMO: Egypt's court of appeal on Monday upheld the death penalty for 12 members of the Muslim Brotherhood convicted in the Rabaa sit-in case, according to state-run media, Anadolu Agency reported.

The court upheld the death penalty against Abdel-Rahman el-Bar, Mohamed el-Beltagy, Safwat Hegazy, Osama Yassin, Ahmed Aref, Ihab Wagdy, Muhammad Abd al-Hayy, Mustafa al-Farmawi, Ahmed Farouk, Haitham al-Arabi, Muhammad Zanati, and Abd al-Azim Ibrahim, Middle East News Agency reported.

Hamas chief in Egypt for talks ahead of planned meeting of Palestinian factions

(Reuters) --- Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for the first in a series of talks this week between Egyptian authorities and Palestinian factions that aims to reinforce a ceasefire with Israel, Palestinian and Egyptian sources said.

Haniyeh's visit came in response to a special invitation from Cairo, in advance of a broader meeting of Palestinian factions that could begin as early as next week, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem told Reuters.
