Egypt produces first batch of covid vaccine domestically

01 July 2021; MEMO: Egypt has domestically produced its first 300,000-dose batch of China's Sinovac coronavirus vaccine, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.

Health Minister Hala Zayed told reporters that the doses were manufactured in two local factories, adding that one of the facilities was operating with a "capacity of 300,000 doses per day and an annual production capacity of 110 to 220 million doses."

Two More Egyptian Airports Receive Health Accreditation From Int’l Body

CAIRO, Jun 30 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt’s Taba and Marsa Matrouh international airports, received certificates of health accreditation by the Airports Council International (ACI), raising the number of Egyptian airports recognised as safe to 11, said the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation yesterday.

The certificate recognises each airport’s “commitment to prioritising health and safety measures,” in accordance with the recommendations and guidelines by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the ACI, the ministry said.

Activist Alaa Abdelfattah calls on Egypt's judiciary to step down

29 June 2021; MEMO: Egyptian activist Alaa Abdelfattah has accused Egypt's judiciary of subordination to the authorities and failing to issue independent rulings.

Alaa was arrested in September 2019 as part of a sweep of activists and political figures who were detained following Egyptian whistleblower Mohamed Ali's calls to protest.

Egypt receives first batch of Russia's covid vaccine

25 June 2021; MEMO: Egypt yesterday received the first consignment of 210,000 doses of Russia's Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine.

The state-run Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement and Medical Supplies said in a statement that the doses had come as part of a "deal signed in May between the two countries to acquire 2 million doses of the Russian vaccine."

24 June 2021; MEMO: The Egyptian government executed eight people on Monday bringing the total number of people hanged this year alone to 57, according to the NGO Reprieve.

The news comes shortly after Egypt's court of appeal upheld the death penalty for 12 members of the Muslim Brotherhood who had been convicted in the Rabaa sit-in case.

Two Killed, Six Injured In Egypt’s Train-Bus Collision: Ministry

CAIRO, Jun 22 (NNN-MENA) – Two people were killed and six others injured yesterday, in a train-bus collision, in Helwan City, near the capital, Cairo, Egyptian Health Ministry said, in a statement.

The injuries were minor and varied between fractures and bruises, spokesperson for the ministry, Khaled Mujahid, said in a statement, adding that, 16 ambulances rushed to the scene to evacuate the injured.

Mujahid confirmed that all the injured are receiving necessary treatment at hospitals.
