01 July 2021; MEMO: As many as 600 Egyptian policemen, including senior officers, have been determined to have been involved in bribery and corruption, as well as abuse of power during the past six months, Arabi21 has reported.
Security and judicial sources said that some of the defendants were suspended from service until the completion of internal investigations into the accusations against them. The sources confirmed that a number will now be referred for criminal trial, as the public prosecution has the evidence to prove their guilt.
As many as 120 policemen have already been referred for trial. Another 200 are being investigated by the public prosecution office, while 280 more are being investigated by the Ministry of the Interior.
