US House to vote on preventing Trump from Iran war

Washington, Jan 8 (AFP/PTI) The Democratic-led US House of Representatives will vote Thursday to prevent President Donald Trump from waging war with Iran after he ordered the killing of a top general, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.

Pelosi said that the Democrats will move forward because their concerns were not addressed in a closed-door briefing to lawmakers Wednesday by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other top officials.

'All is well,' says Trump after Iran missile attack

Washington, Jan 8 (PTI) US President Donald Trump, in his first reaction after Iran's missile attack on two American bases in Iraq, insisted that "all is well" and promised to make a statement to the nation on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday night, Iran launched over a dozen ballistic missiles targeting at least two bases where US military and coalition forces' are stationed in Iraq, the Pentagon said.

WASHINGTON, Jan 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would ban US carriers from operating in the airspace over Iraq, Iran, the Gulf of Oman and the waters between Iran and Saudi Arabia after Iran launched a missile attack on US-led forces in Iraq.

Tehran fired more than a dozen ballistic missiles from Iranian territory against at least two Iraqi military bases hosting US-led coalition personnel, the US military said on Tuesday. 

PM: Iraq won’t become an arena for settling scores

07 Jan 2019; MEMO: The Iraqi caretaker Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi said yesterday the country will not become an arena for “settling scores” between the US and Iran, Anadolu reported.

Abdul-Mahdi made the remarks during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Baghdad, Zhang Tao, in the prime minister’s office in the city, the government said in a statement.

Trump rules out US troop withdrawal from Iraq, threatens 'very big' sanctions

Washington, Jan 6 (PTI) President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to impose "very big" sanctions on Iraq after its Parliament called on the US military to leave the country for assassinating top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in a drone attack in Baghdad.

The Iraqi Parliament on Sunday voted to expel the US troops from its territory which have been there to help the Iraq dispensation fight the Islamic State terror group.

Some 5,000 US soldiers are in Iraq as part of the international coalition against the IS terror group.

Pompeo: US committed to de-escalation with Iran

04 Jan 2019; MEMO: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday reiterated Washington’s commitment to de-escalation with Iran, following the killing of an Iranian top commander in a US airstrike in Iraq’s capital Baghdad, Anadolu Agency reports.

“I spoke today with Chinese Politburo Member Yang Jiechi to discuss [US President] DonaldTrump’s decision to eliminate [Qasem] Soleimani in response to imminent threats to American lives,” Pompeo said on Twitter.

US sending 3,000 troops to region amid Iran tensions

04 Jan 2019; MEMO: The US is deploying roughly 3,000 additional troops to the Middle East after it killed a top Iranian general, according to multiple reports published Friday, Anadolu Agency reports.

The new deployment will include soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, the reports said citing anonymous defense and military officials.

They will be sent to both Iraq and Kuwait, according to NBC News.
