USA: Democrats challenge Trump’s travel ban on anniversary

28 Jan 2019; MEMO: Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, and other prominent Democrats, on Monday announced plans to stop President Donald Trump’s three-year-old ban on travelers from some mostly-Muslim countries, Anadolu Agency reports.

Pelosi issued a statement on her website, while Senator Chris Coons and Representative Ilhan Omar attended a press conference on Capitol Hill to show support for a new piece of legislation called the No Ban Act.

Trump denies telling Bolton Ukraine aid was tied to probe

Washington, Jan 27 (AFP/PTI) President Donald Trump Monday denied that he told his former national security advisor John Bolton that military aid to Ukraine was tied to Kiev investigating his political rivals.

Trump's tweets came after The New York Times reported Sunday that Bolton alleges as much in a draft of his upcoming book.

"I never told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens. In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination," Trump tweeted in the early hours of Monday.

Trump discusses Syria, Libya with Turkey’s Pres Erdogan

WASHINGTON, Jan 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) — US President Donald Trump discussed developments in Syria and Libya in a phone call with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, a White House spokesman said on Twitter.

“The two leaders discussed the need to eliminate foreign interference and maintain the ceasefire in Libya. The leaders agreed that the violence being carried out in Idlib, Syria must stop,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a tweet.

Argentine economy minister in New York for talks with IMF and US Treasury officials

NEW YORK, Jan 27 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Argentina’s Economy Minister Martin Guzman is in New York and on Monday will be participating of a conference at the Council of Americas.

Later in the day he will meet International Monetary Fund and U.S. Treasury officials, as part of Argentina’s efforts to revive growth and renegotiate its debts.

Guzman, an acolyte of frequent IMF critic Joseph Stiglitz will meet with the Fund’s Argentine mission head Luis Cubeddu, and economist Julie Kozak, as well as analysts, investors and U.S. officials.

India: US stresses equal protection under India's new citizenship law

Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells, who has just returned from a trip to the region besides attending the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, said on Friday that her visit offered an opportunity to hear more regarding developments with the new citizenship law.

US VP Pence says White House to release Mideast peace plan next week

JERUSALEM, Jan 24 (NNN-Xinhua) — U.S. Vice President Mike Pence announced Thursday during a visit to Jerusalem that the White House plans to release its plan for peace in the Middle East next week in Washington.

In joint statements with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Pence said that U.S. President Donald Trump requested him to extend an invitation to Netanyahu and opposition leader Benny Gantz to arrive in Washington “to discuss regional issues and the possibility of peace in the Holy Land.”

Netanyahu and Gantz accepted the invitation, Pence said.

US confirms first case of Wuhan virus on American soil

WASHINGTON, Jan 23 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United States announced its first case of a new virus that has claimed at least 17 lives in China and sickened hundreds, joining countries around the world in ramping up measures to block its spread.

The man, a US resident in his 30s who lives near Seattle in Washington state, is in good condition, according to federal and state officials, and approached authorities himself after reading about the SARS-like virus in news reports.

US Election: Clinton says she’d back Sanders if he’s nominee

WASHINGTON (AP) — In an abrupt about-face, Hillary Clinton said Tuesday night that she would endorse her 2016 rival Bernie Sanders if he wins the Democratic nomination to face President Donald Trump in November.

The former secretary of state had earlier refused to say whether she would endorse Sanders in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Tuesday, instead telling the outlet: “I’m not going to go there yet.” She had also offered a broad condemnation of the progressive candidate’s style of politics.

USA: Senate approves impeachment trial rules, rejecting witnesses
