PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), June 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia will witness major changes in the policy of employing foreign workers and to curb the entry of illegal immigrants post COVID-19, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said it was about time for the policy to be reviewed as foreigners were among major contributors to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country as well as several other countries including Singapore.

PUTRAJAYA, June 5 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The government will allocate RM9 billion to tackle the rising rate of unemployment and ensure job sustainability in the country during the national recovery period post COVID-19.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the allocation which will be channeled through various initiatives, will benefit three million workforce in the country.

“I know there are many who are worried about the risk of losing jobs and their source of income after many sectors and economic activities were affected by the Movement Control Order.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The prosecution in the trial of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s case involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds on Wednesday urged the High Court to convict the former prime minister on all seven charges.

Ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram said the prosecution had dealt with charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), abuse of position and money laundering faced by Najib, 67.

PUTRAJAYA, June 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin returned to work in the office here today after undergoing self-quarantine at home for 14 days.

In a posting on his official Facebook page, Muhyiddin began his day with an audience and pre-Cabinet meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah through a video conference.

He then chaired the Cabinet meeting with all members of his Cabinet, also through a video conference.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s state-owned oil firm, Petronas, has entered Myanmar gas market with the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) delivery, the company said today.

Petronas said in a statement that, through its subsidiary, Petronas LNG (PLL) completed its maiden delivery of LNG to Yangon.

Two LNG cargoes were delivered to Yangon in May and June, and the delivery is part of a master sale and purchase agreement, between PLL and CNTIC VPower that was signed in early 2020.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia is seen as gaining the upper hand in eliminating the COVID-19 pandemic as positive cases continue to decline, allowing the opening of more economic sectors for the benefit of all segments of society.

As the country enters the final six days of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) scheduled to end on June 9, it has recorded COVID-19 cases in single figures for three consecutive days, demonstrating that the outbreak is under control.

PETALING JAYA, June 2 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) is aiming at 1.4 million passengers daily to use its rail transportation service in the Klang Valley over the next five years, said its chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

He said the target was based on a projected increase of 10 per cent annually from 700,000 daily commuters for all Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rail Transit (MRT) and monorail prior to the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 2 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan for June to December 2020 period will be launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin this month, said Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. 

Tengku Zafrul said the plan would still focus on three key objectives, namely to empower people, propel businesses, and stimulate the economy.

PUTRAJAYA, June 1 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Court of Appeal has fixed Nov 18 to hear Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s appeal against a High Court’s decision which struck out his originating summons relating to his conviction for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

His counsel J. Leela, when contacted, said the matter came up for case management before deputy registrar Nik Serene Nik Hashim today.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should consider investing in the agricultural, tourism and services sectors in India’s northeastern states as the country is gradually opening up its economy in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, says the co-chairman of the Asean-India Business Council (AIBC) Datuk Ramesh Kodammal.
