KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia and China are committed to further enhancing existing defence co-operation between the two countries.

The Ministry of Defence said, in a statement today, that the co-operation commitment was announced by the Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob after receiving a phone call from the Chinese Minister of Defence Wei Fenghe at 4 pm today.

“Ismail Sabri and his counterpart also discussed regional and international security challenges of mutual interest, including the South China Sea,” it said.

GEORGE TOWN, May 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Penang expects to welcome tourists by third or fourth quarter of this year following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Penang Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said despite Penang being a green zone state, the state is still working to rebuild the tourism industry.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The government will be announcing a six-month economic recovery plan by the end of this month to resuscitate the country’s economy post-COVID-19.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the pandemic has impacted global markets, including Malaysia.

“Businesses have been brought to a grinding halt and unemployment has spiked. Like other economies, we are mitigating the consequences (of the pandemic),” he said while addressing a webinar by the Electrical and Electronics Productivity Nexus today. 

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12  (NNN-BERNAMA) — The people today were reminded of their joint responsibility in helping to break the chain of the COVID-19 infection during the current phase of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) to ensure the country is free from the pandemic.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the current CMCO phase would require more efforts from all Malaysians as self-discipline would be crucial to ensuring the success of efforts made in the past few weeks to break the chain of the virus infection.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) has been extended until June 9, which means interstate travel for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration is not allowed, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

The prime minister said the four-week extension was made on the advice of the Health Ministry (MOH) and the National Security Council (NSC) to curb the spread of COVID-19.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) —  An Indian national and a Sri Lankan man were sentenced to eight months’ jail each by the Magistrate’s Court here today after they pleaded guilty to a charge with breaking into a supermarket and stealing goods worth RM353.70.

Magistrate M. Saravanan handed down the sentence on Kumaran, 25, and Chinna Maruthu, 22, both unemployed.

They were ordered to serve the jail sentence from their date of arrest, which was last Friday.

KUCHING, May 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has identified 101 projects worth RM16.828 billion on which works have continued during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.

Its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said of the total, 42 projects costing about RM16.6 billion involved allocations from the state government, federal government, people’s projects and alternative fund.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (NNN-BERNAMA) — European citizens treated for COVID-19 in Malaysia have shared positive words about their experience, said Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the EU to Malaysia, Maria Castillo Fernandez.

“We hear only good things from the European citizens who have been treated for COVID-19 in Malaysia,” she said.

Fernandez expressed her gratitude towards Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and the hospital staffs here, and also appreciated the fact that the Ministry briefed embassies with timely information and maintained contact with them.

PUTRAJAYA, May 5 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday night called on the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to help smaller nations in the war against COVID-19.

Malaysia, he said, believes that NAM must play a more significant role to champion access and acquisition for smaller nations in obtaining medical supplies, medications and vaccine once they are developed.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Today, Malaysia will begin its Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) with almost all economic and business sectors allowed to reopen, subject to conditions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the authorities.
