KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia’s King, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has called on all Malaysians to pray for the wellbeing of Palestinians.

Istana Negara’s Comptroller of the Royal Household, Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said His Majesty had also expressed his deep concern and support for the Palestinian cause.

PUTRAJAYA, June 12 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Thirty-three new positive cases of COVID-19, including three local transmissions involving Malaysians, were reported today as Malaysia entered the third day of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said this brought the total number of positive cases to 8,402, with 1,115 being active cases with infectivity.

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is preparing for snap election by the end of the year, Singapore’s Straits Times newspaper said, as he seeks a firm mandate amid uncertainty over how much support he has in parliament.

The opposition sought a confidence vote in parliament on Muhyiddin’s leadership in May, accusing him of stealing power by shifting alliances instead of earning it at the ballot box.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11  (NNN-BERNAMA) — Malaysia recorded only two new COVID-19 cases yesterday, which is the lowest daily tally — a good sign indicating that the country is heading towards zero case and freedom from the pandemic soon.

However, it will all depend on the people’s ability to exercise self-control in complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) as there is no more movement control and the country is in the recovery phase.

SANDAKAN, June 11 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Police are on the hunt for nine Filipino men who escaped from the temporary detention centre in Sibuga here early yesterday during heavy rain.

Sandakan District Police chief ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said the detainees, aged between 18 and 43, got out of the centre through a window in the toilet after breaking the grille.

“All of them were held for immigration cases and were in the process of being deported to the Philippines,” he said in a statement Thursday.

PUTRAJAYA, June 10 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) today launched the domestic tourism recovery programme in efforts to revive the sector which was adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its Minister Nancy Shukri said the campaign also encompassed the Tourism Recovery Plan and the Culture Recovery Plan.

She said although the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 (VM2020) has been cancelled, efforts to promote the country as a safe tourism destination would continue to be implemented.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Kuala Lumpur stock exchange, Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session higher on persistent buying activities across the board, taking the cue from the higher overnight performance of Wall Street as hopes of an economic recovery soar following the easing in COVID-19 lockdowns.

At 12.30 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 23.29 points to 1,579.62 last Friday’s close of 1,556.33.

The index opened 16.47 points higher at 1,572.80 and hovered between 1,572.80 and 1,590.83  throughout the early trading session.

Although all celebrations have been postponed in accordance with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), greetings and well-wishes had been pouring in for the King, both from leaders and the people across the country, as well as from foreign envoys.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian authorities detained 269 Rohingya refugees and found a body on board a suspected smuggling boat they said had been intentionally damaged so it couldn’t be turned back to sea.

PUTRAJAYA, June 7 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Interstate travel will be allowed beginning this Wednesday, with the exception of areas declared under enhanced movement control order (EMCO), Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

In announcing the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to replace the Conditional MCO, which will end on Tuesday, Muhyiddin said this will be among the restrictions to be lifted while the country goes through the COVID-19 recovery phase.

The RMCO will see more relaxed conditions from June 10 until August 31, the Prime Minister said.
