Report: Taliban killed captives in restive Afghan province

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — The Taliban captured, bound and shot to death 27 men in Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley last month during an offensive against resistance fighters in the area, according to a report published Tuesday, refuting the group’s earlier claims that the men were killed in battle.

One video of the killings verified by the report shows five men, blindfolded with their hands tied behind their backs. Then, Taliban fighters spray them with gunfire for 20 seconds and cry out in celebration.

Pakistan at critical moment of recovery following floods: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan currently stands at a critical moment as it is embarking on a road to recovery in the aftermath of climate change-induced devastating floods, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said in marking World Food Day.

The day is observed to create awareness about global hunger, malnutrition and the need for collective actions to ensure food and nutritional security for all, the prime minister was quoted as saying in a statement on Sunday.

Pakistani flood victims in worst-hit province return home

ISLAMABAD (AP) — More than half of the flood victims in Pakistan’s worst-hit Sindh province have returned to their homes over the past three weeks as the waters there gradually receded, officials said Monday.

The announcement came as Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the district of Jaccobabad in Sindh, from where he was traveling to the town of Sohbatput in another flood-stricken province, Baluchistan, his office said.

India: Amit Shah to launch MP government's Hindi-medium medical education project today

Bhopal, Oct 16 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Sunday launch the Madhya Pradesh government's ambitious project to impart medical education in Hindi.

During the day-long visit to the state, the senior BJP leader will also lay the foundation stone of a new airport terminal in Gwalior, according to official information.

He will unveil Hindi medical textbooks at a programme at Bhopal's Lal Parade Ground around 12 noon. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will preside over the programme.

India: DMK warns of protest in Delhi if Hindi language imposed on TN stae

Chennai, Oct 15 (PTI) Ruling DMK's youth wing secretary and Chief Minister M K Stalin's son Udayanidhi Stalin on Saturday warned that the party would stage a protest against the BJP-led Centre in Delhi if Hindi is thrust upon Tamil Nadu.

The Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni legislator, who led a massive protest near the landmark Valluvar Kottam here, said that the party would not remain a mute spectator if the sentiments of the people are disregarded by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government.

India: ED attaches over Rs 1,300 cr worth assets in money laundering case against realty group IREO

New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth more than Rs 1,317 crore of real estate group IREO, its managing director and vice president Lalit Goyal and associated entities as part of a money laundering investigation.

The attached properties include land, commercial spaces, plots, residential houses and bank accounts, the federal agency said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The total value of these attached properties is Rs 1,317.30 crore.

India: Kanpur's famous Magician OP Sharma is dead

Kanpur: Popular magician OP Sharma has passed away after a prolonged illness at a hospital here.

OP Sharma's Bhoot Bungalow was located in Barra locality. He belonged to Ballia.

He had contested the assembly elections from Govind Nagar on a Samajwadi Party ticket in year 2002.

However his entry in the BJP happened in the year 2019.

Deputy CM K P Mauraya has also expressed his condolence on his sudden death. 

India slips further in Global Hunger Index - behind Nepal, Bangla Desh and Pakistan

Delhi; 16 Oct 2022 (UMMN): According to the latest report, India has slipped to the 107th position in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022 of 121 countries, from its 2021 position of 101st, falling behind its neighbours Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In 2021, India ranked 101 out of 116 countries while in 2020 the country was placed at 94th position.

Nepal Extended Import Ban On Vehicles, Liquor Products

KATHMANDU, Oct 15 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Nepali government, yesterday, extended an import ban on some vehicles, liquor products and other items, until mid-Dec, as the country’s foreign exchange reserves continue to dwindle.

Four wheelers, including jeep, car and van, motorcycles with an engine capacity of over 150 cc, smartphones priced over 300 U.S. dollars, and all types of foreign liquors are still fully banned, under a notice published in the Nepal Gazette.

Pakistan summons U.S. ambassador over Biden's nuclear remarks

KARACHI, Pakistan Oct 15 (Reuters) - Pakistan's foreign minister said on Saturday he had summoned the U.S. ambassador after President Joe Biden questioned the safety of Pakistan's nuclear programme.

In a speech on Thursday, Biden said Pakistan is "maybe one of the most dangerous nations in the world" as it has "nuclear weapons without any cohesion".
