India: teen raped, stabbed in private parts in MP, critical

Rewa (MP), Oct 12 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was raped and stabbed in her private part allegedly by a 22-year-old man in Rewa in Madhya Pradesh and her condition is critical, police said on Monday.

Prime accused Ankit Rawat (22) has been arrested while his accomplice Vanshpati Rawat (27) is on the run, said Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh.

India: Tender for Rs 20,000-crore LPD project for Navy scrapped

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) The Indian Navy has scrapped a tender to procure four Landing Platform Docks or amphibious warships at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, nearly seven years after launching the acquisition process, government sources said.

The withdrawal of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the long-pending project was triggered by the Navy's requirement of new specifications for the amphibious warships which are known as Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), the sources said.

Bollywood’s powerful file suit against Indian news channels

NEW DELHI (AP) — Top Bollywood filmmakers and industry unions have filed a lawsuit against two popular TV news channels, asking them to refrain from “irresponsible, derogatory and defamatory remarks against Bollywood and its members.”

The lawsuit, filed Monday, comes months after India’s freewheeling television news channels took on Bollywood, India’s Hindi-language film industry based in Mumbai, with a spree of allegations following the suspected suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.

India: Cong accuses BJP MLA of distributing cash in MP bypolls

Indore, Oct 12 (PTI) The Congress in Madhya Pradesh on Monday alleged BJP MLA Akash Vijaywargiya had distributed money to voters in Sanver assembly constituency in Indore district for November 3 byelection and cited a video clip doing rounds of the social media.

State BJP spokesperson Umesh Sharma has dismissed the allegation. "Vijaywargiya (who represents Indore-3 seat) was actually distributing photos of Lord Shiva," he told PTI.

India: Punjab BJP chief's vehicle attacked by protesting farmers

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (PTI) Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma's vehicle was allegedly attacked by some protesting farmers at the Cholang toll plaza in Hoshiarpur district, police said on Monday evening.

Windowpanes of his car were damaged in this incident, though Sharma was safe, they said.

The incident took place when Sharma was going back to Pathankot from Jalandhar.

India: J&K HC directs uploading of encroachers' list on website

Jammu, Oct 12 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the administration to upload on the official website a list of all encroachers, including influential persons, on government land,

The court said the revenue secretary and the divisional commissioners would be held liable for contempt of court if the directions were not complied.

India: Anti-judiciary remarks: AP High Court orders CBI probe

Amaravati, Oct 12 (PTI): Noting that persons occupying high posts were indulging in "waging war against the judicial system" in Andhra Pradesh, the High Court on Monday ordered a CBI probe into the "abusive, life-threatening and intimidating postings" in social media against the Judges.

The High Court asked the CBI to examine whether the attacks on the judiciary were made as a result of a "larger conspiracy" and, if so, take appropriate action against the culprits, "irrespective of the post and position".

India: Ex Cong Mayor named accused in Bengaluru violence case

Bengaluru, Oct 13 (PTI) The Central Crime Branch, probing the violence here over an 'inflammatory' social media post, has named former Mayor and sitting Congress corporator R Sampath Raj as one of the accused in the case, police said on Tuesday.

"He (Sampath Raj) has been named as one of the accused in the DJ halli and KG halli violence," a top police officer investigating the case told PTI.

According to the official, he was amongst those who had information about the violence and did not share it with the police.

India: Farmer ends life in Maha after harassment by money-lender

Aurangabad, Oct 13 (PTI) A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra's Beed district after he was beaten up and harassed by a money-lender to re- pay the sum along with interest, police said on Tuesday.

The money-lender, Yuvarj Bahir, has been arrested, they said.

Farmer Gangaram Gawade (45) allegedly hanged himself from a tree near his residence in Rajuri (Navgan) village of Beed on Sunday, police sub-inspector Suresh Mali told PTI.
