India: UP govt official found dead

Lucknow, Oct 13 (PTI) The body of an Uttar Pradesh official who was missing for the past four days was found at a government building here on Tuesday, police said.

Naseem Akhtar, 43, of the Estate Department was deputed at the OCR building and resided on the 11th floor. His body was found in the duct on the second floor, Hussainganj police station incharge Dinesh Singh Bisht said.

India: Bid to smuggle Rs 30 lakh worth drug to Australia foiled

Chennai, Oct 13 (PTI) A bid to smuggle Rs 30 lakh worth of a narcotic to Australia through courier was foiled by the Customs Department and four people, including the mastermind, arrested in this connection, officials said.

Three kilos of Pseudoephedrine in powder form, packed in 37 plastic pouches marked as 'spices', was recovered recently from Chennai airport by the officials, who acted on specific inputs, a release said.

The drug was concealed along with other spice powder packets.

India: UP govt trying to save culprits of Hathras rape, murder: AAP MP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 13 (PTI) Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of trying to save the culprits in the Hathras case and demanded that the CBI inquiry be monitored by the Supreme Court.

Singh, who was in Muzaffarnagar for a party meeting, told reporters that the state government was trying to weaken the case by "destroying" evidence.

India: Kerala HC stays CBI probe against Life Mission CEO

Kochi, Oct 13 (PTI) In a relief to the LDF government, the Kerala High Court on Tuesday stayed for two months the CBI probe against the CEO of LIFE Mission, a state housing project, over alleged FCRA violations in respect of funds received from a foreign sponsor for construction of dwelling units in Thrissur district.

Justice V G Arun granted the interim stay on a plea by Life Mission CEO U V Jose challenging the registration of the FIR by the central agency against unknown officials of Life Mission.

India: Naxal terrorist camp busted in C'garh; firearms, explosives seized

Raipur, Oct 13 (PTI) Security forces on Tuesday busted a Maoist camp and recovered two firearms and materials used for making IEDs, in a forest of Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the District Reserve Guard had launched an anti-naxal operation in the forests along the border Bijapur and Dantewada districts, inspector general of police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.

India and Norway aim to expand trade ties

New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) India and Norway on Tuesday carried out a comprehensive review of their fast expanding relationship and resolved to further boost trade and investment ties.

The two sides deliberated on a range of key issues at a virtual meeting of the India-Norway Joint Commission which was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Norwegian counterpart Ine Eriksen S reide.

Kashmir: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti released by Indian Administration

Srinagar, Oct 13 (PTI) PDP president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti was released on Tuesday night as the Union Territory administration revoked the Public Safety Act charges against her, more than a year after she was detained following the abrogation of special status of the erstwhile state.

The development came barely two days before the Supreme Court was to hear the matter related to her detention.

India: Bikers fined for bad driving on Ganga Barrage road

Kanpur: Several bike riders had faced penalty while driving dangerously on Ganga Barrage road here on Tuesday.

The SP (Traffic) Basant Lal along with the team conducted a drive against stunting bikers. This campaign covered Rawatpur, Phoolbagh, Bada Chauraha, Narona crossing, Kalyanpur and others.

Driving without wearing a helmet also brought penalty to the scooty and motorcycle drivers.
