India: Let Allahabad HC deal with Hathras rape case, says SC

New Delhi, Oct 15 (PTI) The Supreme Court Thursday said the Allahabad High Court be allowed to monitor the Hathras case in which a Dalit girl was allegedly brutally raped and died of injuries.

The top court, which was hearing a PIL and several intervention pleas of activists and lawyers, was told that no fair trial was possible in Uttar Pradesh as the investigation has been allegedly botched up.

India: 18-year-old Dalit woman found dead in UP's Barabanki, rape suspected

Barabanki (UP), Oct 15 (PTI) An 18-year-old Dalit woman was found dead in an agricultural field in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki, police said on Thursday.

Police said the incident took place at a village under the Satrikh police station area and it seemed the victim was strangled.

2 militants killed in Indian-controlled Kashmir gunfight

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Two militants were killed Wednesday in a fierce gunfight with government forces in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The gunfight broke out at village Chakura of Shopian district about 73 km south Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

India: Calcutta HC orders private schools to offer minimum 20 pc reduction in fees

Kolkata, Oct 13 (PTI) The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered 145 private schools here to offer a minimum 20 per cent reduction in fees across the board, while directing that non-essential charges for use of facilities not availed of will not be permissible.

Guardians of students of the 145 schools, mostly in an around the city, had moved petitions seeking reduction in school fees since only online classes are being held during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

India: SC to pass orders on plea against interim bail to ex-UP minister in gang rape case

New Delhi, Oct 13 (PTI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it would pass orders on October 15 on a plea of Uttar Pradesh government challenging the interim bail of two months granted to gang rape accused and former state minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati on medical grounds by the Allahabad High Court.

The verdict was reserved by a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and M R Shah which heard the arguments of Additional Solicitor General ASV Raju on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government and senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, who represented Prajapati.

India: Will continue struggle for restoration of Article 370, resolution of Kashmir issue: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Oct 14 (PTI) Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who was released from detention after 14 months, has vowed to continue her struggle for the restoration of Article 370 and the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

She said the Centre's decision of August 5 was a "daylight robbery".
