India: BJP MP seeks President's rule in Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) BJP MP Rakesh Sinha on Friday demanded the imposition of President's rule in Delhi, accusing the Arvind Kejriwal government of leaving people unsafe in the wake of the grim coronavirus situation.

"Delhi is in grave crisis. The Arvind Kejriwal government has left people in a state of uncertainty, unsafe. The capital's condition sends out a message to the entire world. The Centre should take direct control of Delhi. Situation is getting worse. President's rule be imposed," the Rajya Sabha member said in a tweet.

India: Oxygen langar organised by south Delhi gurdwara

New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) An oxygen 'langar' was organised by a gurdwara in south Delhi's Greater Kailash for coronavirus patients, according to a statement.

Small cylinders were refilled at the langar, organised on behalf of the management committee of Gurdwara Singh Sabha at Greater Kailash Part 1 in collaboration with former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee chairperson Manjit Singh G K.

The initiative was organised to provide relief from the pandemonium and black marketing, the statement said.

India: No medical-oxygen shortage in J&K: official

Srinagar, Apr 29 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the highest number of vaccine doses in the country and there is no shortage of medical oxygen, the adviser to the lieutenant governor claimed on Thursday.

Addressing a hurriedly-convened press conference, Baseer Ahmad Khan said there was no shortage of medical oxygen or drugs like remdesivir in the Union territory and people should not resort to scaremongering on these counts.

India: UP CM Adityanath recovers from COVID-19

Lucknow, Apr 30 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said he has tested negative for COVID-19.

The chief minister had isolated himself on April 13 after some officials he came in contact with tested positive for coronavirus. He tested positive the next day.

"Due to your good wishes and doctors' care, I have tested negative for coronavirus. I thank you all for your cooperation and good wishes for me,"Adityanath said in a tweet in Hindi.

During his over two-week isolation, the chief minister carried on his work virtually.

India records new daily high of 386,452 Covid cases

New Delhi, Apr 30 (PTI) India saw 386,452 new coronavirus infections in a span of 24 hours, the highest single-day rise so far, pushing the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 18,762,976, while active cases crossed the 31-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

The death toll increased to 208,330 with 3,498 daily new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

India: Strict COVID-19 curbs come into force in Goa

Panaji, Apr 30 (PTI) People stayed indoors and streets wore a largely deserted look on Friday as a four-day-long lockdown came into force in Goa to bring down the rising COVID-19 cases in the coastal state.

The COVID-19-related curbs came into force at 9 pm on Thursday and will remain applicable till 6 am on Monday (May 3).

The state government has said all essential services would be allowed to function during the period.

India: Oxygen plant worker dies in cylinder explosion in UP

Kanpur (UP) Apr 30 (PTI) A 35-year-old worker at an oxygen plant was killed and two others injured after a cylinder exploded during the refilling process here on Friday, police said.

The incident occurred when cylinders of the Royal Children Hospital were being refilled at the oxygen plant in the Dada Nagar factory area, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vikas Kumar Pandey said, adding the deceased was identified as Murad Ali.

The injured men -- Ajay, a supervisor at the unit and Hariom, a hospital employee -- were being treated at a hospital.

Int'l flights to and from India to remain suspended till May 31

NEW DELHI, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Commercial international flights to and from India shall remain suspended until May 31, officials said Friday.

According to a circular issued by the country's civil aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday, the restriction shall not be applicable for international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA.

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s coronavirus cases climbed again Friday, prompting the army to open up its hospitals in a desperate bid to control a massive humanitarian crisis created by an acute shortage of beds, medicines and oxygen.

With 386,452 new cases, India now has reported more than 18.7 million since the pandemic began, second only to the United States. The Health Ministry on Friday also reported 3,498 deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 208,330. Experts believe both figures are an undercount, but it’s unclear by how much.
