India: Google removes 71,132 content pieces in May, 83,613 items in Jun

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) Google removed 71,132 pieces of content in May and took 83,613 removal actions in June following user complaints, the company said in its monthly transparency reports released on Friday.

In addition to reports from users, Google also removed 6,34,357 pieces of content in May and 5,26,866 in June as a result of automated detection.

India: New Karnataka CM in Delhi to meet PM

New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) New Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Friday.

This is his first visit to the national capital after taking over as chief minister of the state.

Bommai is also planning to meet Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as well as BJP national president J P Nadda.

Bommai, who was elected as the new leader of the BJP legislature party on Tuesday, following B S Yediyurappa's resignation, took oath as chief minister on Wednesday.

India: Woman molested in Maha on promise of film role

Thane, Jul 30 (PTI) Police have arrested a woman and three others in Thane city of Maharashtra for allegedly threatening and molesting a female artist by promising to give a role to her in a Hindi film, an official said on Friday.

The 24-year-old victim lodged a complaint at Kasarvadavali police station, where an offence was registered against the accused on Thursday night, he said.

India: Sena MP tells Centre to act against people demeaning women

Mumbai, Jul 30 (PTI) The Shiv Sena on Friday asked the Centre to take strict action on apps demeaning and targeting women.

In a letter to Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said such nuisance cannot be tolerated.

She said some months ago a Youtube channel conducted a "live auction" of women from a particular community, with ratings being given on the basis of physical appearance and derogatory comments being uploaded.

Air India sold its 115 properties for Rs 738 crore since 2015: Govt

New Delhi, Jul 29 (PTI) Air India has sold its 115 properties for Rs 738 crore since 2015 to offset its debt, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said on Thursday.

According to the decision of Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) in 2018, disinvestment-bound Air India has been monetising its immovable assets to offset its debt. The carrier had a debt of around Rs 60,000 crore as on March 2019.

India: Mayawati urges Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of Pegasus row

Lucknow, Jul 29 (PTI) BSP chief Mayawati Thursday urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognisance of the Pegasus snooping row and said that "mistrust and confrontation" between the government and the Opposition over important issues have stalled the functioning of Parliament.

She said the country is "worried" over the Centre not ordering a probe in the Pegasus "espionage scandal".

Her statement came as Parliament witnesses continued disruption due to the Opposition protest over several issues including the snooping row, farm laws and price rise.

India: Go among people, Yogi tells BJP workers

Baghpat (UP), Jul 29 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday exhorted BJP workers to strengthen the party up to the booth level in view of the upcoming Assembly elections and asked them to go among people to resolve their problems.

The chief minister, who arrived here on Thursday morning, met party office-bearers and workers.

There is very less time left for the Assembly elections, for which preparations should be started from now, the CM said, according to a BJP spokesman.

India: Man in UP awarded life term for raping minor

Ballia (UP), Jul 29 (PTI) A local court here on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl last year.

Additional district and sessions Judge Shiv Kumar awarded the life imprisonment to Prem Sagar and also imposed Rs 20,000 fine on him, Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada said.

Sagar had on April 20, 2020 took the girl in a room on the first floor of a shop in Sikandarpur area when she had come there, following which he raped her.

The FIR in this regard was registered by the victim's mother.

India: Evil forces trying to brainwash, exploit kids via online games, darknet: Kerala CM

Thiruvananthapuram,Jul 28 (PTI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said "evil forces" are "deliberately" trying to brainwash children via various platforms like online gaming and the darknet and strict action is required against the same.
