India: Elderly woman tied up, raped in UP's Mahoba

Mahoba (UP), Jul 26 (PTI) A woman, in her mid-sixties, was allegedly tied up and raped in Kabrai town here, police said on Monday.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and found the woman, aged around 65 years, in a critical condition with her hands and feet tied.

She was rushed to a hospital for treatment, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajendra Kumar Gautam said.

KANPUR: Kanpur University is seriously focusing on paperless work.

It aims to put a hold on the wastage of papers and for this purpose, it has taken one more step.

This will even help minimise expenses on the stationary.

Reminding of the computer-based test for IIT entrance examinations three years back Prof Vinay Pathak, vice-chancellor, said that it was a useful experience.

Paperless work will benefit in two different ways: Firstly, there will be stopped paper wastage and second there will be no costs on stationary.

India: Women farmers hold Farmers' Parliament (Kisan Sansad) at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) Nearly 200 women farmers from Delhi's neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana gathered at Jantar Mantar in the national capital for a 'Kisan Sansad' on Monday to continue the agitation against the Centre's contentious agricultural laws.

They raised slogans demanding scrapping of the three farm laws -- the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020; and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

India: Yediyurappa announces resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister

Bengaluru, Jul 26 (PTI) B S Yediyurappa on Monday announced his resignation as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, as his government completes two years in office.

The 78-year old, BJP veteran said he will submit his resignation to the Governor post lunch.

"Don't take me otherwise, with your permission... I have decided that after lunch I will go to the Raj Bhavan and submit my resignation as the Chief Minister to the Governor," Yediyurappa said with a choked voice, as he turned emotional.

India: Delhi HC to hear plea against Ramdev for remarks against allopathy

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) The Delhi High Court will hear on Monday a plea by seven doctors' associations against Yoga guru Ramdev for allegedly spreading misinformation by his statements against allopathy amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The matter will be heard by Justice C Hari Shankar who had earlier asked the counsel for the associations to place on record the videos pertaining to the alleged misinformation.

India: Who funded Pegasus snooping? asks Raut

Mumbai, Jul 25 (PTI) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday asked who funded the alleged snooping of politicians and journalists by Pegasus and compared it with the Hiroshima bombing, saying while the attack on the Japanese city had resulted in death of people, the spying by the Israeli software led to "death of freedom".

"The modern technology has taken us back to slavery," Raut said in his weekly column 'Rokhthok' in the Sena mouthpiece Saamana.

He said the Pegasus case is "no different from the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima".

Indian scientists discover material that repairs itself

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Scientists have developed piezoelectric molecular crystals that repair their own mechanical damage without the need for any external intervention, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) said on Saturday.

Piezoelectric crystals are a class of materials that generate electricity when it undergoes a mechanical impact.
