Libya, Turkey sign deal on medical cooperation

TRIPOLI, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Turkey for cooperation on healthcare and medical sciences.

The deal was signed by Libyan Health Minister Ali Zanati, who was visiting Turkey, with his Turkish counterpart Fahrettin Koca, the Libyan health ministry said in a statement.

The MoU includes cooperation on hospital management, short-term training of medical staff, development of medical services, and combating the COVID-19 pandemic, the statement said.

120 illegal migrants rescued off Libyan coast

TRIPOLI, Aug 16 (NNN-Xinhua) — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said 120 illegal migrants were rescued and returned to Libya.

“Earlier today, some 120 persons were rescued/intercepted by the Libyan Coast Guards in two disembarkation operations,” UNHCR tweeted.

“The individuals were returned to the Tripoli Naval Base where UNHCR and its medical partner IRC provided urgent humanitarian assistance,” it said.

UN Mission in Libya denies allowing proposals contradicting Dialogue Forum roadmap

TRIPOLI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday denied reports saying it allowed discussion of proposals contradicting the roadmap adopted by the UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).

"The mission reiterated that its role is to bring Libyans together and facilitate their discussion or mediation, provided that parties are ready for mediation and working for a compromise," the UNSMIL tweeted.

Covid-19: Libya launches largest coronavirus vaccination centre

TRIPOLI, Aug 13 (NNN-AFRICANEWS) — Libya launches its largest COVID-19 vaccination centre in the capital Tripoli, in an effort to speed up inoculations and catch up with the rising number of cases.

Established in the gymnasium of the City sports venue in Tripoli, the vaccination centre “is open to everyone without an appointment and can receive between 2,000 to 3,000 people in a day.

Libya, Italy To Enhance Bilateral Ties In Various Fields

TRIPOLI, Aug 3 (NNN-IRIN) – Libya’s President of the Presidency Council, Mohamed Menfi, yesterday, stressed the importance of the partnership with Italy, and the enhancement of bilateral relations in the fields of investment, trade and economy.

Menfi made his remarks, during a meeting with visiting Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, said a statement issued by the Presidency Council.
