Pakistan: India wants sabotaging peace in region: FM

MULTAN, Aug 01 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi Sunday said India wanted to sabotage peace in the region and was creating obstacles in this regard.

Qureshi expressed these remarks during his address in a ceremony, organized in honour of workers of Multan Waste Management Company, by PTI local leader Shiekh Wajid, here.

Rights groups warn assaults on women on the rise in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Noor Mukadam’s last hours were terror-filled. Beaten repeatedly, the 27-year-old jumped from a window but was dragged back, beaten again and finally beheaded. A childhood friend has been charged with her killing.

The gruesome death last week in an upscale neighborhood of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, is the latest in a series of attacks on women in Pakistan, where rights activists say such gender-based assaults are on the rise as the country barrels toward greater religious extremism.

Pakistan: Treatment of religious minorities in India debated at UK’s House of Lords

ISLAMABAD, July 29 (APP): Councillor Dr James Shera, former Mayor of Rugby, has expressed his deep concern over the human rights issues reported during a recent House of Lords debate about the treatment of minorities in India.

“The House of Lords Members discussed reports of persecution of minorities and intimidation of civil society members in India, conveyed deep worries and urged Her Majesty’s government to broach the issues of violation of human rights and persecution of minorities in India,” Dr. Shera said in a press release issued on Thursday.

Gunmen wound Chinese factory workers in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi

KARACHI, July 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Gunmen riding on a motorcycle fired into a car carrying two Chinese factory workers in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi on Wednesday, wounding one of them before fleeing the scene, a rescue official and police said.

The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear, and senior officer Javed Akbar said police were still investigating.

Rescue worker Ahmad Shah said both foreigners were Chinese and one of them was wounded. Karachi is the capital of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, home to several Chinese-funded construction projects.

Pakistan attaches great value to its relations with South Africa: COAS

RAWALPINDI, Jul 27 (APP): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa Tuesday said Pakistan attached great value to its relations with South Africa.

He expressed these views during his meeting with Chief of South African National Defence Forces General Rudzani Maphwanya who called on him here at the General Headquarters, said an Inter Services Public Relations news release.

Afghan Forces Kill Nine Militants In Badakhshan Province

FAIZABAD, Jul 27 (NNN-XINHUA) – A total of nine militants, including four foreigners, were confirmed dead, after Afghan soldiers ambushed a group of Taliban fighters in Kuran-wo-Munjan district of the northern Badakhshan province today, an army officer in the restive province, Abdul Razaq, said.

“The Taliban militants were moving from one place to another, when the soldiers ambushed them in Askazar village this morning, killing nine, including four foreign nationals, on the spot,” Razaq told Xinhua.

Afghan soldiers seek refuge in Pakistan after losing border military posts

ISLAMABAD, July 26 (Reuters) - Forty-six Afghan soldiers sought refuge in Pakistan after losing control of military positions across the border following advances by Taliban insurgents, Pakistan's army said on Monday.

Hundreds of Afghan army soldiers and civil officials have fled to neighbouring Tajikistan, Iran and Pakistan in recent weeks after Taliban offensives in border areas.

Search for missing S. Korean climber continues at Karakoram mountain range

ISLAMABAD, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A search operation is underway to find missing South Korean climber Kim Hong-bin, a Pakistani private tour operator that arranged Kim's expedition said on Sunday.

Kim went missing after falling into a crevasse in bad weather in the Karakoram mountain range when the climber was descending from the Broad Peak, the world's 12th highest peak, said Haji Ghulam Muhammad, head of Blue Sky Treks and Tours.
