Pakistan: Cabinet gives go ahead to signing of Reko Diq final deal

ISLAMABAD, Dec 13 (APP): The federal cabinet on Tuesday formally accorded its approval to the signing of final deal over Reko Diq project, thus paving way for inking of the final agreement on December 15.

After the approval given to the ministry of petroleum and other relevant ministries and with its final signing, the agreement over Reko Diq project would be implemented.

China urges citizens to leave Afghanistan after Kabul attack

ISLAMABAD (AP) — China on Tuesday advised its citizens in Afghanistan to leave the country “as soon as possible,” following a coordinated attack by Islamic State militants the previous day on a Chinese-owned hotel in the heart of Kabul.

The Chinese advisory appeared to be a setback for Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers who seek foreign investments in hopes of halting the downward spiral of the Afghan economy since their takeover of the country more than a year ago.

Pakistan: IOFS to celebrate its day on Monday to review achievements in Africa

ISLAMABAD, Dec 11 (APP): The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) will celebrate IOFS Day on Monday and will gather the Diplomatic Corps and other relevant stakeholders in Kazakhstan to provide a presentation on the organization’s accomplished work throughout the year.

During the celebration, a presentation will be made on the achievements of the Islamic Organization for Food Security during the year 2022 and its contributions to enhancing food security.

1 killed, 10 injured in van-trailer collision in southern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and 10 others were injured on Sunday in a collision between a van and a trailer in Ghotki district of Pakistan's southern Sindh province, rescue workers reported.

According to the reports, the accident took place on the National Highway during the early morning hours when the van driver fell asleep, and resultantly the vehicle hit the trailer coming from the opposite direction.

Pakistan PM’s son returns from exile to face graft charges

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A son of Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif returned home Sunday after four years in London to face corruption charges that were filed against him in 2020.

Suleman Shahbaz reached Islamabad early Sunday and then took a flight to his hometown of Lahore after meeting with his father at the prime minister’s residence, said Ata Tarar, a spokesman for Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League party.

Pakistan: We inherited a divided country; No need for early elections: Bilawal

ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 (APP): Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that he did not see the need to hold early elections in the country as was being demanded by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan.

The foreign minister, in an interview with Al-Jazeera, said that the current government inherited from its predecessor “a divided country and a collapsed economy.”

However, he said the incumbent government was looking for solutions to internal problems and consensus at the international level.

IS claims attack at Pakistan embassy that wounded guard

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for last week’s shooting at the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan in which the head of the mission escaped unharmed but a guard was wounded.

In a brief statement late Saturday, IS claimed two of its fighters attacked “the renegade Pakistani ambassador and his guards” while they were in the Pakistani embassy’s yard, wounding a guard and inflicting damage to the building. It gave no further details.

Pakistan's new army chief says will defend "motherland" during visit to disputed Kashmir

Dec 3 (Reuters) - Pakistan's new army chief on Saturday said the military was ready to defend "every inch of our motherland" if attacked, during a visit to the Line of Control (LoC) that divides the disputed Kashmir region, which is claimed by both Pakistan and neighbouring India.

The visit came less than a week since General Asim Munir took charge of Pakistan's powerful military, and were among his strongest public statements on arch-rival India since taking up the role.

Pakistan will pull out of Asia Cup if ACC shifts tournament due to India's objection

Rawalpindi, Dec 2 (PTI) Pakistan will pull out of the Asia Cup if Asian Cricket Council decides to shift the tournament, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja said on Friday.

In October, Asian Cricket Council president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said that India will not travel to Pakistan next year for the 50-over Asia Cup event after which PCB had threatened to pull out of the World Cup scheduled to be held in India.
