PM to co-chair ‘Climate Resilient Pakistan’ conference in Geneva on Jan 9

ISLAMABAD, Jan 4 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will co-host, along with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, an international conference on ‘Climate Resilient Pakistan’ in Geneva on January 9.   

At the conference, the prime minister will outline Pakistan’s vision for rehabilitating the affected population and reconstructing the damaged infrastructure in a resilient manner, with the support of development partners, and the country’s transition towards a more dynamic and sustainable economic development model.

Pakistan: NA Speaker pledges continued support to Kashmiri cause

ISLAMABAD, Jan 04 (APP): National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Acting Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani said on Wednesday that Pakistan would continue extending its moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for inalienable right to self-determination.

In their message on Self Determination Day being observed on Jan 5, the Speaker said the day reminds the international community of its commitments regarding Kashmir.

Pakistani, Chinese staff join hands to make CPEC success story: minister

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal said on Friday that Pakistani and Chinese staff of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project have joined hands to work hard with dedication as a team to make the project a success story.

Launched in 2013, CPEC is a corridor linking Pakistan's Gwadar Port with Kashgar in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which highlights energy, transport and industrial cooperation.

5 killed in soldier-terrorist clash in Pakistan: military

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Five people including three soldiers and two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, a military statement said.

The intense gun battle took place in Kurram tribal district, following which military troops also recovered weapons and ammunition from the killed terrorists, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.

Sanitization of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area, said the statement.

PM underlines significance of continued global support for Pakistan’s post-flood plans

ISLAMABAD, Dec 28 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday underscored the importance of continued international support and solidarity for Pakistan’s plans to build back better after devastating floods.

The prime minister held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

He invited President Erdogan to the international conference being co-hosted with the United Nations in Geneva on 9th January next year in the wake of the recent devastating floods in Pakistan, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

4 injured in hand grenade attack near police station in SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were injured on Sunday in a hand grenade attack in Quetta city of Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province, police said.

According to local police, some unknown miscreants threw two hand grenades in front of a shop across the road from a police station at the Sabzal Road area of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan.

Police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a hospital.

Pakistan: Suicide bombing in Islamabad kills 2 suspects and policeman

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A powerful car bomb detonated in a residential area in Pakistan’s capital on Friday, killing two suspected militants and an officer, police said, raising fears that militants have a presence in one of the country’s safest cities.

At least three police officers and seven passersby were wounded in the bombing in Islamabad. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Friday’s bombing happened 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) from the garrison city of Rawalpindi, home of the military and government spy agencies.

Pakistan clinches 2nd position in ‘Huawei ICT Competition 2022’

MUSCAT, Dec 22 (APP): Pakistan has clinched second position in the Huawei Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Competition 2022 held in Muscat, Oman on Thursday.

According to the statistics, 12,000 students from 135 universities attempted the nationwide test in which two teams comprising six students qualified for the Middle East Regional Finals from Pakistan.
