ISLAMABAD, Feb 16 (APP): United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres on Sunday while linking the need to merge the local initiatives with the global efforts to ward off the climate degradation, appreciated Pakistan and its people for taking some of the vital steps to reverse back global warming affects.

Islamabad, Feb 16 (PTI) UN chief Antonio Guterres arrived here on Sunday on a four-day visit to Pakistan during which he will attend the international conference on Afghan refugees, hold parleys with the top Pakistani leadership and visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

The UN Secretary-General was received by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram and senior officials of the Foreign Office and the United Nations in Pakistan on his arrival at the Nur Khan Airbase, Radio Pakistan reported.

15 Feb 2020; MEMO: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Friday said he would help Pakistan stay off a terrorism financing blacklist at a meeting of a global finance watchdog, a move he suggested would counter “political pressure” from Islamabad’s critics, reports Reuters.

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which tackles money laundering, told Islamabad late last year that it could face blacklisting if it continued to apply inadequate controls over terrorism financing.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 15 (NNN-PPI) – Pakistan started preparations to sign the Strategic Economic Framework (SEF) and Plan of Action (PoA), agreed upon with Turkey, and the government decided to establish a special unit at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, for SEF after both countries consented to the draft of the framework.

Ministry of Economic Affairs, dispatched a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to contact Turkey through diplomatic channels.

Islamabad, Feb 14 (PTI) Notwithstanding India's objection, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday once again raked up the Kashmir issue, vowing that Ankara will support Pakistan's stand as it is a matter of concern to both the countries.

Addressing a joint session of Pakistan's Parliament, Erdogan, who arrived here on a two-day visit, announced that Turkey will back Pakistan in its efforts to come out of the Grey List of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) which is meeting this week in Paris.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP): Pakistan Navy’s exercise “Sea Spark 2020” started in Karachi on Wednesday with an objective to evaluate war preparedness and practical planning of the force.

In addition to the Pakistan Navy assets, the Pakistan Army and Air Force personnel were also participating in the exercise, a Pakistan Navy press release said.

Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi was the chief guest at the inauguration of the drill.

Lahore, Feb 12 (PTI) Mumbai attack mastermind and Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed was on Wednesday sentenced to 11 years in jail by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan in two terror financing cases.

Saeed, a UN designated terrorist whom the US has placed a USD 10 million bounty on, was arrested on July 17 in the terror financing cases. He is lodged at the Lahore's Kot Lakhpat jail in high security.

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- A meeting of the Pakistani federal cabinet with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair on Tuesday has decided to provide subsidy of 10 billion rupees (65 million U.S. dollars) on five essential food items in a bid to control rampant food inflation.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (APP): Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) during the past 24 hours, injuring 10 civilians along Jandrot and Nikial sectors.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported Monday that Indian forces targeted the civilian population in Jandrot and Nikial Sectors along the LoC, with mortars and heavy weapons.

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (APP): Noting the close fraternal ties between Pakistan and Turkey, Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday appreciated the leadership of brotherly country for supporting in clear terms Pakistan’s principled stance on the Kashmir issue.

The prime minister said that both countries enjoyed historical brotherly ties and they stood shoulder to shoulder with each other in the difficult times.
