US asks Russia for help with agenda on North Korea's denuclearization

The United States has asked Russia to assist in determining the right agenda on certain aspects of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and Moscow is ready to contribute along with other participants in the six-party process, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov told reporters on Friday after talks with his US colleagues in Washington.

Moscow urges Washington to drop plans of placing weapons in outer space

MOSCOW, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday urged the United States to abandon plans of placing weapons in outer space and thus prevent a new arms race.

"We once again call on Washington to show prudence and abandon such irresponsible adventures that would have extremely negative consequences for the entire international community and for the United States itself," the ministry said in a statement.

Medvedev invites US to imagine Venezuelan-style change of president in Washington

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/.Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has called for imagining a situation where the US president might facing regime change like the one that is now unfolding in Venezuela. On his Facebook page, Medvedev pondered what the American people might think of such a scenario on their own soil.

"Just imagine for a moment how the American people would react to the news the budget crisis (shutdown) has produced a situation in which, say, the speaker of the House of Representatives has declared himself a new president," he speculated.

Erdogan and Putin vow closer cooperation on Syria at Moscow talks

24 Jan 2019; AFP: Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a meeting in Moscow on Wednesday vowed to coordinate their actions more closely in Syria.

"Cooperation between Russia and Turkey is a touchstone for Syrian peace and stability," Erdogan said in translated comments at a joint press conference after their talks, which lasted around three hours.

"With our Russian friends we intend to strengthen our coordination even more."

Russian, US senior diplomats to attend Beijing-hosted meeting of five key nuclear powers

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and US Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Andrea Thompson will attend a meeting of five main nuclear states in Beijing on January 30-31, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing answering a TASS question.

"Next week on January 30-31, Ryabkov and Thompson are scheduled to be in Beijing to attend a meeting of the so-called ‘nuclear five’," she said.

Ships on fire in Black Sea are in Russia's territorial waters

MOSCOW, January 23. /TASS/ The Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transportation has confirmed that two tankers on fire in the Black Sea are in Russia's territorial waters, the agency's press service told TASS on Wednesday.

"The two tankers on fire are drifting and have already entered Russia's territorial waters, its 12-mile zone," the press service said.
