Israel: Netanyahu appeals to keep protests away from Memorial Day

Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, appealed on Thursday to Israeli politicians from his government and the opposition to keep protests at his judicial overhaul plan away from annual remembrances for slain soldiers and victims of militant attacks, Reuters reports.

Meanwhile, an organiser of the televised 75th Independence Day ceremony in Jerusalem that will follow Memorial Day next week said cameras would cut away from anyone trying to disrupt it.

Israel to impose 3-day lockdown on Palestinian Territories next week

19 Apr 2023; MEMO: Israel will impose a 3-day lockdown on the Palestinian Territories as of April 24 for the upcoming Memorial Day and Independence Day celebrations, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The closure is set to begin on Monday, 24 April, at 5 p.m., and last until Wednesday, 26 April, at 11:59 p.m.

A military statement said border crossings with the Gaza Strip will also be closed.

Israel army battalion lays down arms, refuses training

18 Apr 2023; MEMO: An entire Israeli army battalion from the Golani Brigade laid down their arms and walked out of training on Tuesday in protest against leadership reshuffle, Israeli media reported.

The Commander of the battalion was removed from his position, Jerusalem Post reported, because he was deemed unfit for it.

The Israeli media reported that the soldiers entered the training building on their base, left their arms and left.

Israeli police say two wounded after suspected terror attack in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, April 18 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A suspected shooting attack by a Palestinian gunman in Jerusalem on Tuesday left two Israeli men wounded, police said.  

It was the latest in a year-long cycle of violence that shows no sign of abating after weeks of heightened tensions around Jerusalem during the overlap of the Jewish holiday of Passover and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Suspected cyberattack halts travel from Israel airport

17 Apr 2023; MEMO: A suspected cyberattack disrupted border control systems at Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport yesterday, local media reported.

Thousands of passengers who were travelling from or returning to Israel were unable to leave the airport as they could not have their passports processed.

Israeli authorities reported that the issue resulted in computers being unable to read the passports.

Moshe Arbel, a Knesset member and the Deputy Minister of Health and Interior, will replace former Interior and Health Minister, Arye Dery, in both ministries until the Knesset is able to re-authorise Dery's reappointment.

Israel PM: Peace with Saudi Arabia would be 'giant leap' towards ending Arab-Israeli conflict

17 Apr 2023; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Monday that normalising relations with Saudi Arabia would be a "giant leap" towards ending the Arab-Israeli conflict, Reuters reports.

"We want normalisation and peace with Saudi Arabia. We view that as, perhaps, a giant leap towards ending the Arab-Israeli conflict," Netanyahu said, speaking during a meeting in Jerusalem with US Republican Senator, Lindsey Graham.

Israeli police restrict Christian participation in Holy Fire ritual in Jerusalem

16 Apr 2023; MEMO: Israeli security forces on Saturday attacked Orthodox Christians who wanted to attend the Holy Fire ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the occupied East Jerusalem, Anadolu reports.

Orthodox Christians gathered in the Christian Quarters of Jerusalem's Old City carrying candles, wooden crosses and symbolic swords in their hands, according to an Anadolu reporter.
