Israel says Russia fired at its jets over Syria in May

JERUSALEM, July 26 (Reuters) - Israel said on Tuesday that its military jets came under Russian anti-aircraft fire over Syria in May but they missed their target, describing the confrontation as a "one-off incident".

The disclosure by Defence Minister Benny Gantz came amid tensions between Israel and Russia over the former's condemnation of the Ukraine war and the latter's scrutiny of a Jewish emigration agency. 

Palestinians: Israeli forces kill 2 in West Bank gun battle

NABLUS, West Bank (AP) — Israeli troops and special forces on an arrest mission exchanged fire with Palestinians barricaded in a house in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, Israeli police said. The local rescue service said two Palestinians were killed.

Israeli police said a number of armed Palestinians were killed during the hours-long battle deep inside the city of Nablus, without specifying. Police said no Israeli forces were wounded.

Israel asked US to prevent Turkish operation in northern Syria, officials reveal

24 July 2022; MEMO: Israel lobbied the US administration of President Joe Biden to prevent Turkiye from launching a new military operation in northern Syria, Israeli officials have reportedly revealed.

According to the news site Axios, two anonymous Israeli officials informed it that Israel's national security adviser Eyal Hulata told his American counterpart Jake Sullivan in recent weeks that a renewed Turkish offensive against Kurdish militias in northern Syria would assist Iran's regional interests.

JERUSALEM, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the government may revoke the citizenship of people convicted of terrorism and actions that constitute a breach of trust against the country.

A panel of seven judges led by Supreme Court President Esther Hayut said that a person convicted of "breach of trusts against the State of Israel, such as an act of terror, an act of treason or serious espionage, or acquisition of citizenship in a hostile state" could face a cancelation of their citizenship.
