24 Dec 2019; MEMO: Women Against the Coup has strongly condemned the “intentional killing” of the female prisoner in Egyptian jails Maryam Salem, who passed away in detention on Sunday, Arabi21 reported.

In a statement the women’s movement said that Salem “passed away in one of the cells of Qanater Prison for women on Sunday due to intentional medical negligence.”

23 Dec 2019; MEMO: Egypt’s former military chief-of-staff Sami Anan was released from detention on Sunday almost two years after his arrest following his plans to compete in the 2018 presidential election, his office manager said on Twitter, Reuters reports.

Anan, now at home according to the manager, was held in a military prison until he suffered a stroke in July 2018 and was then moved to a military hospital in Cairo’s Maadi suburb, where he remained until his release.

23 Dec 2019; MEMO: An Egyptian woman died in Qanater Prison in Egypt today after her health deteriorated, making her the first female fatality in an Egyptian jail.

CAIRO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh on Thursday received the first British flight, after Britain lifted a four-year ban on flights to the Red Sea resort, Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry announced.

The ministry said in a statement that the first direct British flight, with 110 passengers onboard, departed from Birmingham, London.

In October, the British Embassy in Cairo announced that the British government had removed its advisory against flying to Sharm el-Sheikh.

19 Dec 2019; MEMO: Ten women detained in Qanater women’s prison in Egypt have started a hunger strike to protest their ill-treatment and inhumane conditions.

The women have said they resorted to the open-ended strike as a last resort after finding no legal recourse to express their suffering.

SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday called on the international community to make joint efforts to fight against terrorism.

He made the remarks at the 3rd World Youth Forum opened on Saturday in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.

Speaking at a session discussing challenges facing international peace and security, the president said terror groups could harm a big country as one or two terrorist operations would destroy tourism.
