Azerbaijan: Baku says Armenia’s Su-25 attack plane destroyed

BAKU, October 18. /TASS/: Azerbaijan’s Air Force destroyed an Armenian Su-25 attack plane, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"On October 18 at 12:30 (11:30 Moscow Time) Azerbaijan’s Air Force downed another Su-25 attack plane of Armenia’s Armed Forces, which tried to carry out air strikes on the Azerbaijani army’s positions in the Jabrayil direction," the ministry said.

Armenian Defense Ministry Press Secretary Shushan Stepanyan dismissed Azerbaijan’s statement. "This statement is a blatant lie, we don’t have any downed plane," she told TASS on Sunday.

Armenia, Azerbaijan announce new attempt at cease-fire

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — Armenia and Azerbaijan on Saturday announced a new attempt to establish a cease-fire in their conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh starting from midnight, a move that comes a week after a Russia-brokered truce frayed immediately after it took force.

The new agreement was announced following Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s calls with his counterparts from the two nations, in which he strongly urged them to abide by the Moscow deal. There were no immediate claims of violations after the truce took effect at midnight.

Baku announces destruction of Armenian Su-25, Yerevan refutes

BAKU, October 17. /TASS/: The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that the country's air defense forces destroyed the Su-25 aircraft of the Armenian armed forces.

"On October 17, at 11:11 local time (10:11 Moscow time), Azerbaijani air defense units destroyed Su-25 aircraft belonging to the Armenian Armed Forces, which tried to strike at the positions of the Azerbaijani army units in the direction of the Jabrayil region," the defense ministry said in a statement.

Armenia, Azerbaijan tensions rise amid claims of new attacks

Azerbaijani President calls strike on Ganja ‘war crime’

BAKU, October 11. /TASS/: Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has called a missile attack on the city of Ganja from Armenian territory a war crime.

"Armenia has blatantly violated the ceasefire regime and launched a missile attack on innocent residents in the city of Ganja. This is a war crime and gross violation of the Geneva Conventions," the head of state wrote on his Twitter page on Sunday. He also stated that "it is a disrespect to the negotiations under Russia’s mediation."

Ceasefire due to enter force in Nagorno-Karabakh after Moscow deal

10 Oct 2020; MEMO: Azerbaijan and ethnic Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh were due to halt hostilities later on Saturday after a deal was struck in Moscow between Baku and Armenia to allow prisoners and the bodies of the dead to be exchanged.

It was not immediately clear how long the ceasefire, due to enter into force at midday local time, would last, and there were reports from both sides on Saturday morning of continued fighting.

Iran fears regional war as fighting rages around Nagorno-Karabakh

BAKU/YEREVAN (Reuters) - Iran’s president warned on Wednesday that fighting between Azeri and ethnic Armenian forces in the South Caucasus could trigger a regional war as the death toll rose on the 11th day of hostilities.

More than 300 have now died in the renewed fighting in and around the mountain enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, which under international law belongs to Azerbaijan but is populated and governed by ethnic Armenians.
