Pakistani Central Bank’s Forex Reserves Rose By 280 Million USD

ISLAMABAD, Mar 25 (NNN-APP) – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), said that, its foreign exchange reserves have increased by 280 million U.S. dollars.

During the week ending on Mar 17, the total foreign exchange reserves of the SBP rose to around 4.6 billion dollars, the SBP said in a statement.

Last week, “the SBP received 500 million dollars, as the government of Pakistan’s commercial loan disbursement,” the statement said, adding that, “after accounting for external debt repayments, the central bank’s reserves” had recorded this increase.

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s top opposition leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he was being targeted because he has raised serious questions about Modi’s relationship with the Indian business conglomerate Adani Group.

Gandhi said the objective of his expulsion from Parliament on Friday was to prevent him from speaking in the legislature about his allegation of an infusion of an unaccounted $3 billion into shell companies owned by the Adani Group, headed by Gautam Adani.

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi loses Parliament seat

NEW DELHI (AP) — Key Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has lost his parliamentary seat after a court found him guilty of defamation over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname and he was disqualified from the lawmaking body, a parliamentary statement said on Friday.

Gandhi, who represented a constituency in southern Kerala state as a member of the Congress party, was disqualified from his membership in the lower house of Parliament from March 23, the date of his conviction, the statement said.

4 killed, 70 injured as 6.5-magnitude earthquake rocks Afghanistan

KABUL, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Four people have been confirmed dead and 70 more injured as a 6.5-magnitude earthquake rocked parts of Afghanistan on Tuesday night, spokesman of the Public Health Ministry Sharafat Zaman Amar said Wednesday.

"Latest reports that we have collected so far indicate four dead and 70 others injured," Amar told Xinhua.

Amar also noted that the number of casualties could go up as collecting information from provinces continues.

Sri Lanka To Receive First Tranche Of IMF Fund In Two Days: IMF Mission Chief

COLOMBO, Mar 21 (NNN-XINHUA) – Sri Lanka will receive the first tranche of the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) within the next two days, IMF senior mission chief for Sri Lank, Peter Breuer said, today.

Sri Lanka will immediately receive an initial disbursement of about 330 million U.S. dollars from the EFF arrangement, which is expected to catalyse new external financing, including from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, he told a press conference.

Afghanistan: Taliban ban cannabis cultivation

19 Mar 2023; MEMO: The Taliban on Saturday announced a ban on the cultivation of hemp, or cannabis, in Afghanistan, Anadolu reports.

According to decree by Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, the cultivation of cannabis is prohibited across the country. In case of a violation, the plantation will be destroyed and violators punished according to Sharia rules.
