Foreign Secretary, Pakistan Missions discuss safe, quick evacuation of Pakistanis from Sudan

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan on Saturday held a follow-up virtual meeting with Pakistan’s missions in Sudan and neighboring countries to discuss modalities for the safe evacuation of Pakistanis from Sudan.

The representatives from PIA, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and other relevant agencies also joined the meeting.

The participants had an in-depth discussion on finalizing plans for safely and quickly evacuating Pakistani citizens from Sudan.

Indian police arrest Sikh separatist leader after long hunt

NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian police on Sunday arrested a separatist leader who has revived calls for an independent Sikh homeland and the secession of India’s northern Punjab state, which has a history of violent insurgency.

Amritpal Singh had been on the run since last month after capturing national attention in February, when hundreds of his supporters stormed a police station in Ajnala, a town in Punjab state, with wooden batons, swords and guns to demand the release of a jailed aide.

Punjab state police tweeted Sunday that Singh was arrested in Moga, a town in the state.

India: Revenue officials say no rules broken in land transfer by Vadra firm

Pakistan: Bilawal, Iranian counterpart exchange Eid greetings

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (APP): Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Saturday telephoned his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and exchanged Eid greetings with him.
The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed his best wishes for the people of Pakistan.
Similarly, Bilawal Bhutto extended his felicitations to the people of Iran.
While talking to his Iranian counterpart, Bilawal said the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia was a positive development.

The United Nations calls the event ‘International Mother Earth Day’. This year’s theme was continued as the important theme for a second year “Invest In Our Planet”.

The Earth Day is usually celebrated with outdoor performances, where individuals or groups perform acts of service to Earth.

Man arrested in Sri Lanka over false information on bomb threat to Muslim mosques

COLOMBO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan police on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old man who allegedly provided false information about an impending bomb attack in Akurana, a predominantly Muslim area in the South Asian country.

According to a statement released by the police, the suspect called the online emergency complaint system on April 19 and anonymously provided false information about a bomb threat to mosques in Akurana during Muslim devotees' prayers in the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.

India: Bengal may soon become top market for direct selling revenue

Kolkata, Apr 22 (PTI) West Bengal could soon become the highest-contributing market to direct selling revenue in the country, surpassing Maharashtra, a senior official of a leading industry body said.

West Bengal has performed “consistently well” as a market for direct selling in India, and once again emerged as the second-highest revenue-grossing state, accounting for 10.4 per cent of the national sales, he said.

Bangladesh to welcome EU, UK observers in next general polls: PM

DHAKA, April 20 (NNN-BSS) — Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh would welcome observers from the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) in the upcoming general election.

“We will welcome observers from the European Union and the United Kingdom in the next general election,” she said when the outgoing UK High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert Chatterton Dickson paid a farewell call on her at the latter’s official Ganabhaban residence here.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed newsmen after the meeting.
