Pakistan govt, Opposition to meet again on Friday for second round of talks to end deadlock over holding elections

Islamabad, Apr 27 (PTI) After much bickering and dithering, Pakistan's political leaders on Thursday held talks to end the deadlock over holding elections in the country and decided to continue the parleys on Friday to resolve the issue.

The government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the main opposition party led by Imran Khan, have been wrangling over the issue of whether to hold elections on the same date in the country or first go for polls in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa only.

Russian FM Lavrov to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Goa

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in India early next month, Russian officials said on Thursday.

India is hosting the meeting of foreign ministers of the SCO countries in Goa on May 4 and 5.

"Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in India," a Russian official said.

Pakistan: President Alvi happy over recovery of Erdogan from illness

ISLAMABAD, Apr 27 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday expressed his gladness as his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan recovered from illness.

“I am glad that our friend Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recovered from an episode of ill health. Alhamdulillah,” the president wrote on Twitter.

He said that more than their personal friendship, the centuries-old love between the two people had been carried well by President Erdogan.

“May Allah keep you safe and healthy,” he remarked.

7 killed in fire on passenger train in southern Pakistan

KARACHI, April 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least seven people were killed after a car on a moving passenger train caught fire overnight in southern Pakistan, officials said Thursday.

Railways official Mohsin Sial said the train caught fire in Khairpur, a district about 500 kilometers north of Karachi, the capital of Sindh province. He said six people were killed in the blaze while a woman died when she jumped from the window of the moving train.

The blaze also badly damaged several other cars in the train, he said, and the cause remained unclear.

India: Congress seeks FIR against Amit Shah for saying Karnataka would be 'afflicted by riots' if INC wins

Bengaluru, Apr 27 (PTI) Congress leaders on Thursday complained to the police against Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his alleged statement that if their party won the upcoming elections, then Karnataka would be “afflicted with riots", and claimed he said it with the clear intent of disrupting the communal harmony in the state.

It also requested the police that an "urgent and immediate" FIR be lodged against the former BJP chief and others for the "offences".

India: Woman eloping with her boyfriend's father traced in Delhi

Kanpur. A woman who had scaped with her boyfriend's father has been brought back here The incident took place a year ago.

The woman reportedly met her boyfriend's father Kamlesh while visiting his house.

The duo fled Kanpur in March 2022 and left behind 20-year-old Amit.

The woman's family had lodged a kidnapping complaint with the Chakeri police station.

After a year-long hunt, the police traced Kamlesh and the woman in Delhi and brought them back.

9 killed in truck-van collision in Pakistan’s Sindh

ISLAMABAD, April 26 (NNN-XINHUA) — At least nine people were killed late Tuesday night in a road accident in the Thatta district of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, the rescue department told Xinhua on early Wednesday morning.

 Sindh Integrated Emergency & Health Services said that a truck hit a van from the front near the Chillia area of Thatta.

 All nine people on board in the van were killed on the spot after their vehicle was crushed by the speeding truck on the highway.
