India: Maha building collapse: 2 more bodies recovered, toll rises to 8

Thane, May 1 (PTI) Two more bodies were recovered on Monday from the debris of a two-storey building which collapsed in Bhiwandi town of Maharashtra's Thane district, raising the death toll to eight, officials said.

The work of clearing the debris was underway for the third day, they said.

The building, which housed godowns on the ground and first floors and four families on the top floor, collapsed at 1.45 pm on Saturday at Wardhaman Compound in Valpada of Mankoli area.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 30 (APP): Due to the successful operation of Pakistani intelligence agency a leaked audio call between Munish Sharma, an Indian journalist, asking one of his subordinates to distort facts about the killing of Mukhtiar Hussain Shah who died in police custody on April 27, has exposed Indian brutalities and human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).   

In the audio leak, Shrama could be heard directing Balkar Singh from Amar Ujala Newspaper, Samba, about filing of a news story to cover up the incident.  

Afghan police rescue child, arrest 3 kidnappers in capital

KABUL, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have rescued a child from kidnappers' clutch in Afghanistan's capital city Kabul and arrested three kidnappers, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said on Sunday.

Without providing more details, the officer said that the child was rescued in Police District 10 very recently and an investigation had been initiated into the case.

11 dead, 4 hospitalized in gas leak in northern India

NEW DELHI (AP) — Eleven people died and four more were hospitalized after a gas leak Sunday in northern India’s Punjab state, local media reported.

The incident occurred at an industrial area in Ludhiana city, but the source of the gas leak is still unclear, police told the Press Trust of India news agency.

India’s National Disaster Response Force sealed off the densely populated area and evacuated residents.

Authorities were trying to ascertain the type of gas in the leak, PTI quoted disaster response officials as saying.

New Delhi, Apr 29 (PTI) Vikas Walkar, the father of Shraddha Walkar who was allegedly killed by her live-in partner Aaftab Amin Poonawala last year, on Saturday demanded that the case be fast-tracked so that he can perform her last rites.

Speaking to reporters after a court here adjourned its order on framing of charges against Poonawala till May 9, Vikas said he would go on a hunger strike if the case is not fast-tracked within a month.

"Gen (retd) Shankar Roychowdhury said the biggest responsibility for the martyrdom of soldiers in Pulwama rests with the government. The National Security Advisor, who advises the prime minister, is also guilty of lapses in security," Gohil, a Rajya Sabha MP, said on Saturday.
