Misbah and Waqar step down from Pakistan coaching roles

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis have quit their coaching roles with Pakistan, a month before the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

The Pakistan Cricket Board said on Monday that it had appointed former test players Saqlain Mushtaq and Abdul Razzaq as interim coaches for the home limited-overs series against New Zealand that starts this month, and for the two T20s against England in October.

“Team management for the T20 World Cup will be appointed in due course,” the PCB said in a statement.

Taliban takes control of Panjshir, last holdout Afghan province

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban said on Monday they have taken control of Panjshir province north of Kabul, the last holdout of anti-Taliban forces in the country and the only province the Taliban had not seized during their blitz across Afghanistan last month.

Thousands of Taliban fighters overran eight districts of Panjshir overnight, according to witnesses from the area who spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing for their safety. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid issued a statement, saying Panjshir was now under control of Taliban fighters.

India: 14-year-old girl raped in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Sep 6 (PTI) A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man in a village here, police said on Monday.

The attack on the minor girl took place on September 4, when she had gone to a field to get grass, they said.

An FIR was registered based on a complaint by the victim on Sunday under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.

The police said a search was on to nab the accused, identified as Chhotu.

India: Ruckus by BJP in Jharkhand assembly over namaz room

Ranchi, Sep 6 (PTI) Ruckus by the opposition BJP over allotment of a room for offering namaz in Jharkhand assembly disrupted proceedings on Monday.

Before the session began for the day, BJP MLAs sat on the stairs at the entrance of the assembly chanting Hanuman Chalisa and 'Hare Rama' with placards.

As soon as the proceedings for the day began, the BJP members trooped into the Well chanting 'Jai Shri Ram'.

India: Restrictions remain in force in parts of Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 6 (PTI) Normal life remained affected for the fifth day on Monday as authorities imposed restrictions in parts of the city to prevent exhumation of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's body from the Hyderpora graveyard for burial in the Eidgah Martyrs' graveyard in old city.

"Restrictions have been imposed around Hyderpora and Eidgah areas of the city as a precautionary measure," officials said.

Three Killed, 20 Injured In SW Pakistan’s Suicide Blast

ISLAMABAD, Sept 5 (NNN-APP) – At least three people were killed and 20 others injured when a suicide bomber ripped himself off at a vehicle of paramilitary troops in Quetta, the capital city of Pakistan’s south-west Balochistan province this morning, rescue teams said.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. local time when the bomber hit his explosive-laden motorbike into one of the vehicles of the Frontier Corps (FC) convoy, on the outskirts of the city, Muhammad Zeeshan, manager operations at the rescue department of Edhi Foundation Quetta, said.

Taliban say they have entered capital of holdout Afghan region

Sept 5 (Reuters) - The Taliban said on Sunday their forces had fought their way into the provincial capital of the Panjshir valley, their latest claim of progress in fighting against opposition forces holding out in the area north of Kabul.

There was no immediate response from the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRFA), which groups opposition forces. It had said earlier the Taliban "propaganda machine" was trying to spread distracting messages and that it had pushed Taliban forces back from another part of the valley.

NEW DELHI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Indian authorities are stepping up contact tracing after the death of a 12-year-old boy from the Nipah virus on Sunday in the southern Indian state of Kerala, officials said.

According to Kerala's Health Minister Veena George, so far 158 people who came in contact with the victim have been identified.

Kashmir leader’s family charged under India anti-terror law

SRINAGAR, India (AP) — Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir charged family members of late resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani under a harsh anti-terror law for raising anti-India slogans and wrapping his body in the Pakistani flag, officials said Sunday.

Geelani, who died Wednesday at age 91, was the emblem of Kashmir’s defiance against New Delhi and had been under house arrest for years.

Afghanistan: Kabul airport reopens, domestic flights restart

05 Sep 2021; MEMO: Ariana Afghan Airlines resumed some flights in Afghanistan between Kabul and three major provincial cities on Saturday, the carrier said, after a technical team from Qatar reopened the capital's airport for aid and domestic services, reports Reuters.

Flights between Kabul and the western city of Herat, Mazar-i Sharif in northern Afghanistan, and Kandahar in the south have started, the airline said in a statement on its Facebook page.
