Indian PM Modi greets Israeli counterpart on Jewish New Year

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted his Israeli counterpart Naftali Bennett on the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah.

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year.

Modi said in a tweet, "Warmest wishes to Prime Minister @naftalibennett, the friendly people of Israel, and the Jewish people around the world celebrating Rosh Hashanah today.

India: Teenage girl raped by 4 in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), Sep 7 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly raped by four people in a village in Bansdeeh area, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on September 5 when the girl, aged around 15 years, had gone to attend nature's call, they said.

They threatened me with dire consequences if I reported the incident to my family members, the girl told reporters.

The assailants also said that they would circulate the video of the incident on social media, she added.

India: Kashmir leader Mehbooba Mufti under house arrest again

Srinagar, Sept 7 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday claimed that she has been placed under house arrest, and said the move has exposed the government's claims of normalcy.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister also posted on Twitter pictures of a security force vehicle blocking the main gate of her Gupkar residence here.

"Ive (I have) been placed under house arrest today because according to admin(istration) the situation is far from normal in Kashmir. This exposes their fake claims of normalcy," she tweeted.

Pakistan: PM urges int’l community to stand in solidarity with Afghan people

ISLAMABAD, Sept 6 (APP): Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday stressed that the international community must stand in solidarity with the Afghan people, undertake positive engagement and create incentives for ensuring sustainable peace, stability and economic development in Afghanistan.

The prime minister said Pakistan had suffered enormously due to protracted conflict and instability in Afghanistan.

A curtain divides male, female students as Afghan universities reopen

Sept 6 (Reuters) - Students across Afghanistan have started returning to university for the first time since the Taliban stormed to power, and in some cases females have been separated from their male peers by curtains or boards down the middle of the classroom.

What happens in universities and schools across the country is being closely watched by foreign powers, who want the Islamist militant movement to respect the rights of women in return for vital aid and diplomatic engagement.

Nepal: WHO chief urges joint efforts to prevent future COVID-19-like pandemic

KATHMANDU, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday called for countries to work together to ensure that a pandemic at the magnitude of COVID-19 shall not occur again in the near future.

"The pandemic's impact differs from country to country," Ghebreyesus said at the inaugural ceremony of the 74th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Southeast Asia. "We must ensure that a pandemic of this magnitude does not occur in the near future."

He urged the entire world to work together to make it a reality.

Sri Lanka launches tourism promotion initiatives with Russia, Ukraine

COLOMBO, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said tourism promotion initiatives with Russia and Ukraine have been launched to uplift the country's tourism industry, as the government aimed to revive the sector which was severely hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, local media reported here Monday.

Ranatunga told local journalists that Russia and Ukraine were among the top 10 countries with the highest number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in recent years.

Taliban spokesman says new Afghan gov't to be announced in days

KABUL, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said here on Monday that a new Afghan government will be announced in the next few days, after confirming that the group has taken over Panjshir, the only province that had remained out of Taliban's control.

Afghanistan might form a caretaker government as the preparation was underway to announce the new administration, Mujahid told a press conference.

The problem of lead recycling harms not only the mental and physical health of people but also contaminates the environment.

The lead-acid batteries in a fashion causes spillage of acid and lead dust in the soil and surroundings. The melting in open furnaces release poisonous gases into the air.

Turkey, India would benefit from improved ties, envoy says

Speaking to WION TV, Sunel said Turkey and India are both rising stars in their respective regions, owing to their growing economies and expanding roles in the area. He added that Ankara was among the first nations to recognise India's independence in 1947, opening a diplomatic mission the following year.
