India: Hindutva terrorist kills senior colleague and 3 others in train

Palghar; 2 Aug 2023 (UMMN): A Hindutva terrorist shot dead a senior colleague and three Muslim passengers on board a train, while hailing PM Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

The terrorist was identified as Chetan Singh, 33, from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh state, a constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Arab Monetary Fund lends over $615m to Egypt to support banking reforms

01 August 2023; MEMO: The Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) has agreed to extend a new loan of $615.8 million to Egypt, making it the latest such loan to the North African country.

Signed last week Tuesday by the Central Bank of Egypt's Governor, Hassan Abdalla, and the AMF Director-General Chairman, Abdulrahman Al-Hamidy, the agreement for the new loan reportedly aims to support Egypt's reforms in its banking sector.

India: 17 Killed As Crane Collapsed At Road Construction Site In Maharashtra

NEW DELHI, Aug 1 (NNN-PTI) – At least 17 workers were killed and three others injured today, after a crane collapsed at a road construction site, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, officials said.

The incident occurred near Shahapur in Thane district, about 71 km north-east of Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were rushed to the spot.

“Our search and rescue operation is still underway,” said Sarang Kurve, a senior official of NDRF.

Police arrest 29 alleged criminals in Afghanistan

KABUL, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Police arrested 29 people on charge of involvement in criminal activities over the past 24 hours in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, police arrested the 29 individuals involved in criminal activities including theft, drug smuggling and carrying weapons illegally from nine out of the country's 34 provinces.

Similarly, police also arrested seven people on charge of involvement in selling illicit drugs in northern Baghlan province a couple of days ago, police said.

Afghan acting FM asks U.S. to lift sanctions: gov't spokesman

KABUL, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi told U.S. officials at a meeting held in Doha that the U.S. sanctions against Afghanistan should be removed, the local Tolonews TV reported.

The Afghan media quoted the caretaker government's spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid as saying on Monday evening that Muttaqi also urged the U.S. side not to create obstacles to the economic development of Afghanistan.

Gunmen open fire on police officers during anti-polio drive in southwest Pakistan, killing 2

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — Gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on Pakistani police escorting a team of polio workers on Tuesday during a door-to-door vaccination campaign in the southwest, killing two police officers before fleeing, police said.

The polio workers were unharmed in the attack on the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, local police chief Asif Marwat said.

Four Shot Dead Inside Moving Train In India

NEW DELHI, Jul 31 (NNN-PTI) – At least four persons were killed, when a police officer with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, inside a moving train, in the south-western state of Maharashtra, today, official sources said.

The shootout took place inside the “Jaipur Express” train (Train Number 12956), which was moving from the country’s western city of Jaipur towards the financial capital, Mumbai, after it had crossed the Palghar railway station, nearly 60 miles from Mumbai.

Oil depot on fire in north Afghanistan

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, July 31 (Xinhua) -- An oil storage caught fire in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital of Afghanistan's northern Balkh province, a fire brigade official said on Monday.

The fire erupted when employees of the storage were loading the oil, Shah Mahmoud Timori said. The incident happened in a storage where petrol and diesel have been stored.

Although firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, it had caused property damage to locals living in the area.

Police have yet to make comment on the incident.

Pakistan buries the dead after 54 killed in a bombing at an election rally for a pro-Taliban cleric

KHAR, Pakistan (AP) — Hundreds of mourners in northwestern Pakistan carried caskets draped in colorful cloths to burial sites in the hills Monday after a suicide bombing killed at least 54 people at an election rally for a pro-Taliban cleric.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for Sunday’s bombing in Bajur that killed at least five children and wounded nearly 200 people.

Russia to supply nuclear fuel to Bangladesh power plant in September

31 July 2023; MEMO: The Director-General of Russia's nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, on Monday said that Bangladesh will get the nuclear fuel for its lone nuclear power plant this September, Anadolu Agency reports.

Alexey Likhachev said this during a meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, at the latter's office in the capital, Dhaka, the Premier's Press Secretary, Ihsanul Karim, told reporters after the meeting.
