Police arrest 29 alleged criminals in Afghanistan

KABUL, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Police arrested 29 people on charge of involvement in criminal activities over the past 24 hours in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, police arrested the 29 individuals involved in criminal activities including theft, drug smuggling and carrying weapons illegally from nine out of the country's 34 provinces.

Similarly, police also arrested seven people on charge of involvement in selling illicit drugs in northern Baghlan province a couple of days ago, police said.

The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to crack down on outlaws and criminals as part of its efforts to ensure law and order in war-plagued Afghanistan.
