Assad regime funds war through its embassies in Europe: Report

30 Sep 2021; MEMO: Large fees from Syria's diaspora, who evaded obligatory military conscription, have become a major source of revenue for the cash-strapped Bashar Al-Assad regime, said a recent report produced by an international consortium of investigative centres, Anadolu reports.

"Men who don't pay face the threat of their family's assets in Syria being seized," said a report released by Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) on Tuesday.

Syria: Cautious calm prevails in northern Syria after Sochi summit

30 Sep 2021; MEMO: A state of cautious calm has prevailed in cities and towns in north-western Syria where no Russian warplanes have been monitored as the summit that brought Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin together came to an end.

Local sources told Aram news site that apart from some bombings in Jabal Al-Zawiya, south of Idlib, no major escalation has been recorded.

Jordan: minister says Syria crisis can only be resolved with US-Russian dialogue

24 Sep 2021; MEMO: Jordan's foreign minister has said that the Syrian crisis can only be resolved through exclusively US-Russian dialogue, alongside a collective Arab role.

"Russia has a major role in any effort to resolve the Syrian crisis, and an important role in stabilising southern Syria," Ayman Safadi told Asharq news channel. "The crisis cannot be resolved without US-Russian dialogue, but it is a disaster that must end, and a political solution in Syria will preserve its unity."

Half of global casualties from cluster bomb were in Syria in 2020

24 Sep 2021; MEMO: Over half of all worldwide casualties caused by cluster bombs in 2020 were in Syria, a new report has revealed.

According to the publication released by the Cluster Munition Coalition (CMC) last week, cluster bomb casualties in Syria resulted in a staggering 52 per cent of all similar casualties around the world last year, with 44 per cent of those Syrian injured being children.

5 Syria opposition groups unite as Syrian Liberation Front

16 Sep 2021; MEMO: Five military groups in northern Syria operating under the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) united under the umbrella the Syrian Liberation Front, Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak reports.

The groups Hamza Division, Mutasim Division and Sultan Suleyman Shah Division, the 20th Division and North Falcons Brigade joined the Syrian Liberation Front which has in its ranks 20,000 armed soldiers, the report says.

Syrian Army Entres Rebel Bastion In Daraa Following Several Deals

DAMASCUS, Sept 9 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian army, yesterday hoisted the Syrian flag, in Daraa al-Balad, in the southern province of Daraa, following a Russian-mediated agreement with the armed rebels in that area.

The army hoisted the Syrian flag, after scores of rebels laid down their weapons and surrendered themselves, while others chose to be transported to rebel-held areas in northern Syria.

Over the past couple of weeks, the Russians have put in a lot of efforts, to ensure success, a deal for defusing the months-long tension in Daraa.

Rebels To Be Transferred From Daraa To Northern Syria

DAMASCUS, Sept 5 (NNN-SANA) – Buses were prepared yesterday, to transport rebels from Syria’s southern province of Daraa, to rebel-held areas in northern Syria.

The evacuation is planned for the rebels, who refused to reconcile with the Syrian authorities in Daraa. As such, roadblocks were removed to prepare for the evacuation from several areas in Daraa.

Some rebel groups retracted their previous pledges, to hand over their weapons in Daraa.
