Iran general replacing Soleimani vows revenge for US killing

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — An Iranian general who replaced the leader killed by a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad vowed Sunday to take revenge as Tehran abandoned the remaining limits of its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers in response to the slaying.

Esmail Ghaani’s threat comes as the blowback over the U.S. killing of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani mounted Sunday with Iraq’s parliament calling for the expulsion of all American troops from Iraqi soil.

Zarif criticizes Pompeo for saying Iraqis were celebrating Soleimani’s death

TASS, January 5: Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif slammed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as "an arrogant clown masquerading as a diplomat" on Saturday in response to Pompeo’s statement that Iraqis were allegedly celebrating the death of Iran’s General Qassem Soleimani.

Pompeo wrote on his Twitter account earlier that the Iraqis were "dancing in the street for freedom, thankful that General Soleimani is no more." He also posted a video of people carrying Iraqi flags, running and screaming

Soleimani assassination marks end of US presence in region: IRGC Commander

Tehran, Jan 5, IRNA -- Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander Major General Hossein Salami on Saturday described Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani as architect of US strategic defeats over the past decades, saying that his assassination marks the end of the US presence in the region.

Vowing severe revenge for Soleimani assassination, he said that the IRGC will certainly take a painful and regrettable revenge from America, but its timing and scale are not known.

Iran says U.S. responsible for consequences of Soleimani's assassination

TEHRAN, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Saturday that the United States is responsible for the consequences of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Zarif slams top Iranian commander’s murder as act of international terrorism

TASS, January 3: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has condemned the murder of Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Quds Force, an elite unite of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, as the US act of international terrorism.

"The US' act of international terrorism, targeting & assassinating General Soleimani … is extremely dangerous & a foolish escalation," Zarif wrote on his Twitter account, describing the commander as "the most effective force fighting" the Islamic State, Al Nusra and Al Qaeda terror groups (outlawed in Russia).

Iran declares 3 days of public mourning following assassination of top military leader

TEHRAN, Jan 3 (NNN-IRNA) — Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has announced three days of public mourning following the assassination of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Qasem Soleimani.

The message came following the death of Soleimani and the acting commander of the volunteer Iraqi Shia Forces, known as the Deputy Commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (the Hash al-Shaabi) Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandes.

In a message on Friday, the Supreme Leader said that he announced three days of public mourning.

For the U.S. and Israel, he was a shadowy figure in command of Iran’s proxy forces, responsible for fighters in Syria backing President Bashar Assad and for the deaths of American troops in Iraq.

Iran’s Rouhani says country to witness economic boom in 2020

Speaking during a visit to an exhibition of petrochemical industries in Tehran, Rouhani said the sector provides Tehran with about 20 per cent of its foreign currency needs.
