India: 2 brothers booked for attempt to rape in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Oct 20 (PTI) A case has been registered against two brothers for allegedly attempting to rape a minor girl in Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday.

Circle Officer of Police of Naraini area Siyaram said the duo made the attempt to rape on Sunday and the case was registered on Monday.

"A case was registered against the two youths for allegedly trying to rape a 13-year-old girl. The medical examination of the girl has been done. Efforts are on to nab the main accused, who is at large," the police officer said.

India: 11-yr-old girl raped by two, including uncle in UP's Amethi

Amethi (UP) Oct 20 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two people, including her uncle, in a village under Musafirkhana Kotwali police station area, police said on Tuesday.

The girl was returning from tuition on Friday afternoon when she was allegedly raped near her village, said Amethi Superintendent of Police Dinesh Singh.

Both the accused, including the victim's uncle, have been arrested and further action is being taken, he added.

India: Wipro bags five-year deal from Fortum

New Delhi, Oct 20 (PTI) IT services major Wipro on Tuesday said it has bagged an application management (AMS) and services integration and management (SIAM) contract from Fortum, a clean-energy company headquartered in Espoo, Finland.

As a part of the five-year agreement, Wipro will manage Fortum's application portfolio across hundreds of applications for more than 11,500 users across 18 countries and provide 24/7 support for business-critical applications, a statement said.

No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

India: Chirag slams BJP leaders for calling LJP 'vote katua'

Patna, Oct 19 (PTI) LJP chief Chirag Paswan on Monday voiced strong displeasure over the use of term 'vote katua' for his party by some BJP leaders to keep Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar happy, and asserted his party will win more seats in the Bihar assembly polls than the JD(U).

'Vote Katua' is an expression used in the Hindi heartland for political parties and candidates in elections who are in the fray to eat into the votes of others without benefiting themselves.

India: CAA to be implemented soon: Nadda

Siliguri (WB), Oct 19 (PTI) BJP national president J P Nadda Monday said the execution of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act has been delayed due to the pandemic and asserted that the law will be implemented soon.

Nadda, who was speaking at a meeting of social groups of north Bengal, accused the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal of indulging in "divide and rule politics" in the state to serve the political interests of her party - the TMC, unlike BJP which works for the development of all.

India: 88 candidates left in fray for 7 UP assembly bypolls

Lucknow, Oct 19 (PTI) A total of 88 candidates for seven seats were left in the fray for the Uttar Pradesh assembly bypolls after the last date of withdrawal for nominations for it on Monday.

"Eighty-eight candidates left in the fray after the withdrawal process got over. The last date for filing nominations for the bypolls was on October 16. The papers were scrutinised on Saturday while Monday is the last date for the withdrawal of nominations," a state Election Commission official said here.

India: UP govt's Mission Shakti a false propaganda: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Oct 19 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday described the Mission Shakti launched by the Yogi Adityanath government as a false propaganda.

The UP chief minister had started the programme from Balrampur district on Saturday with an aim to protect and empower women.

Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement that the BJP government launched the programme as rape incidents in the state started bringing disrepute to it.

India: CBI questions 4 accused arrested in Hathras rape-murder case

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) The CBI on Monday questioned all the four accused lodged in Aligarh prison for alleged involvement in the rape and murder of a 19-year old Dalit woman in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, officials said.

The CBI team had taken permission of the court to examine the accused - Sandeep, Luvkush, Ravi and Ramu - who are in judicial custody, they said.

India: No Durga Puja pandals in Delhi's CR Park this year

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) No Durga Puja pandals will be allowed to set up in Delhi's CR Park due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the puja in the main temple will be held with the entry of around 50 people, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Monday.

The Greater Kailash legislator said the decision was taken in view of a huge number of senior citizen population in the area.

However, Bharadwaj said the residents will do the traditional kalash pooja.
