India: Babul Supriyo to formally resign as BJP MP and join TMC

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) Former BJP leader Babul Supriyo will formally resign as MP on Tuesday, he said in a tweet, weeks after he quit the party to join the TMC.

In a tweet, the former union minister on Monday thanked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for granting him appointment to resign as Lok Sabha MP.

India: Dalit woman raped by 30-year-old in UP's Bhadohi

Bhadohi (UP), Oct 18 (PTI) A 20-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly abducted and raped by a man of another village, police said, adding the accused was arrested on Monday.

The 30-year-old accused lured the woman, took her away and raped her several times, according to an FIR lodged at Gyanpur police station.

The FIR was lodged on the basis of the complaint made by victim's father on August 17 and raids were carried out to rescue her but to no avail, SSI Prabhunath Karwar said.

India: COVID-19: Antibodies found in 76.3 pc people in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 18 (PTI) Antibodies against the COVID-19 infection were found in 76.3 per cent of people in the third round of sero-survey in Haryana, Health Minister Anil Vij said on Monday.

He also released a report of the third survey, which was conducted in September, and that found the sero-positivity rate to be 78.1 per cent in urban areas and 75.1 per cent in rural areas.

In the first round of the sero-survey, the positivity rate was found to be eight per cent and in the second round, it was 14.8 per cent.

India: BJP, RSS to hold two-day coordination meet from Tuesday

New Delhi, Oct 18 (PTI) A two-day coordination meeting of the BJP and the RSS will be held in Delhi from Tuesday to deliberate on policy-related issues, sources said on Monday.

Top leaders of the BJP, including its secretary-general (organisation) BL Santhosh, other officer-bearers and Union ministers are expected to attend the meeting, they said.

RSS-affiliated organisations related to various sectors like education, culture and economy are expected to attend the close-door meeting.

India: PM Modi greets people on Milad-un-Nabi

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted people on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad.

Modi said, may the virtues of kindness and brotherhood always prevail.

"Milad-un-Nabi greetings. Let there be peace and prosperity all around. May the virtues of kindness and brotherhood always prevail. Eid Mubarak!" the prime minister tweeted.

India: Railway Board shuts down IRSDC

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) In continuation with its efforts to rightsize the Railways, the Railway Board has issued an order closing down the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) that was set up for the redevelopment of stations across the country.

This is the second organisation under the Railway Ministry to be shut down after the closure of the Indian Railways Organisation for Alternative Fuel (IROAF) on September 7, 2021.

India: Lawyer shot dead in UP's Shahjahanpur district court

Shahjahanpur (UP), Oct 18 (PTI) A lawyer died of a gunshot wound to the head at the Shahjahanpur district court here on Monday afternoon and police are trying to ascertain if it is a case of suicide or murder.

Superintendent of Police (SP) S Anand said advocate Bhupendra Singh (38) of Jalalabad tehsil had gone to the third-floor office of ACJM-I of the district court to meet a clerk in connection with some case when a gunshot was heard and he was found dead.

India: Kanpur's Jajmau remains wet in morning, afternoon turns humid

According to the news reports, there remains a chance of further spells of rains. 

In the morning today the sky was heavily overcast by dark clouds and showers took place after 7 a.m. in the Jajmau area.

However, the evening temperature has turned out to be humid. People are saying that there was a difference in the situation.

India: Cattle deaths on railway track also occur on Kanpur sections

Kanpur: Heads of cattle being run over by trains have been a perennial problem for Indian Railways. Each such case damages assets, delays trains and poses a safety challenge. 

Stretches like Firozabd-Makhhanpur, Etawah-Phaphund in Tundla-Kanpur sections; between Chanderi-Chakeri, near Kanpur; Pora-Jalesar near Hathras; Delwara- Jhakhaura in Jhansi-Lalitpur section; in the Mathura-Kosikalaan section and in the Agra-Dholpur section in UP, are marked as 'vulnerable spots'.

India: Kerala landslide toll touches 18 as rescuers dig deeper

Kottayam/Idukki, Oct 17 (PTI) The toll from disastrous flooding caused by heavy rains and landslides in hilly areas of two central Kerala districts rose to 18 as rescue workers recovered more bodies from the rubbles on Sunday.

State Revenue Minister K Rajan said the rescue workers have recovered 15 bodies from the debris and slush of the landslides that had hit various places of Idukki and Kottayam districts on Saturday.
