India: Woman raped by policeman, aide in Puri

Puri (Odisha), Dec 2 (PTI) A woman was allegedly gang raped by two persons including a policeman inside a police quarter in Odisha's temple town of Puri on Monday.

Police said the woman lodged a complaint saying a man, who identified himself as a police personnel, offered her a lift in his car while she was waiting at a bus stand in Nimapara town.

"I was on my way from Bhubaneswar to my village at Kakatpur. I believed him and accepted the lift," the woman told reporters outside Kumbharpada police station where she filed her complaint.

India: Onion price reaches Rs 11,000 per quintal mark in Nashik

Nashik, Dec 2 (PTI) The wholesale price of onions of the summer variety rose to Rs 11,000 per quintal on Monday during auction at the Kalwan Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) here in Maharashtra.

Monday was the first trading day of December and the wholesale price of the summer crop of onions was the highest this season in Nashik district, a major producer of the vegetable, APMC sources said.

The previous highest wholesale auction price of onions was Rs 9,000 per quintal recorded at the Kalwan APMC last month, they said.

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) A bill that seeks to regulate recycling of ships according to international standards will further boost the ship-breaking business in India, after Parliament passes it, Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

However, Congress member Hibi Eden opposed the Recycling of Ships Bill, questioning the "hurry" with which the government had brought it and cautioning that India's rivals in the business like Pakistan, Bangladesh and China may benefit at its cost.

Jaipur, Dec 1 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday claimed that that the graph of the BJP is going down because of its "negative thoughts".

Their thought is negative, not positive. Therefore they are being exposed gradually and will be more exposed, Gehlot told reporters here.

Their graph is going down. People will understand that they talk only such things which nationalists like. Who is not a nationalist? All are nationalists; but they want to create division on this count also, he said.

India: Body of rape victim found hanging in college hostel

Baripada (Odisha), Dec 1 (PTI) The body of a lecturer, who had levelled rape charges against her relative, was found hanging inside a college hostel at Rairangpur, police said on Sunday.

The deceased had lodged an FIR at Jharpokharia police station on October 30 alleging that she had been raped by a distant relative during her visit to Keonjhar on October 27, police said.

Following her death, the accused was arrested from Cuttack on Sunday.

India: School teacher held for molesting children

Kannur, Dec 1 (PTI) A teacher of an aided school has been arrested here for allegedly molesting his students during coaching classes, police said on Sunday.

Saji (45), an ex-serviceman and also a local Congress leader, was caught on Saturday following a complaint from Childline stating he would touch children inappropriately, the police said.

India: Man paraded naked in Maha for rape bid on minor girl

Nagpur, Dec 1 (PTI) A 35-year-old man was paraded naked on Sunday evening by people for trying to rape a four- year-old girl at her house in Pardi area of Nagpur in Maharashtra, police said.

Local people thrashed the accused Jawahar Vaidya, tied his hands with a rope and paraded him naked on streets before handing him over to the police, an official said.
