Libya urges joint int'l efforts against illegal immigration

TRIPOLI, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Al-Mabrouk Abdulhafith, head of the Libyan Anti-Illegal Immigration Department, on Tuesday called for joint international efforts to resolve the issue of illegal immigration.

Abdulhafith made his remarks during a meeting with German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza, according to a statement issued by the Libyan Interior Department.

Germany provides UNDP with 400,000 euros to support elections in Libya

TRIPOLI, Jan 19 (NNN-Xinhua) — German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza announced providing 400,000 euros for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to support the High National Elections Commission of Libya.

“Honored to sign a German 400,000 Euros contribution to UNDP Libya in support of LyHNEC (Libyan High National Elections Commission),” Owcza tweeted.

“Legal and organizational preparations should start now to support the electoral roadmap as agreed on by the LPDF (Libyan Political Dialogue Forum),” the ambassador said.

Egypt intensifies peace efforts with Libyan warring parties to end conflict

TRIPOLI, Jan 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The recent visit of a high-level Egyptian security delegation to Libya’s capital Tripoli reflects Cairo’s openness to all Libyan parties with the goal of reaching a solution to the Libyan conflict, Egyptian experts said.

On Sunday, a high-level Egyptian delegation, headed by Undersecretary of Egypt’s Intelligence Service, Ayman Badie, visited Tripoli for talks with senior officials of the UN-backed Libyan government.

UN hails prisoner swap between Libya army, Haftar's forces

28 Dec 2020; MEMO: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday hailed the success of implementing a prisoner exchange between the Libyan government and Khalifa Haftar's forces, reported Anadolu Agency.

"UNSMIL welcomes the remarkable success registered…by the exchange of prisoners from both sides under the supervision of the Joint Military Commission (5+5)," the mission said on Twitter.

Egypt delegation visits Tripoli for Libya talks

28 Dec 2020; MEMO: An Egyptian delegation arrived in Tripoli on Sunday to meet with Libyan officials, marking the first visit by an official Egyptian delegation to the Libyan capital since 2014, reports Anadolu Agency.

Libyan media said the delegation is led by Ayman Badie, the head of an Egyptian committee tasked with following up the Libyan file, and comprises security officials and diplomats.

UN welcomes prisoner swap between Libyan parties

TRIPOLI, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Saturday welcomed the exchange of prisoners between rival parties.

"UNSMIL welcomes the remarkable success registered today by the exchange of prisoners from both sides under the supervision of the Joint Military Commission (5+5), and thanks to the good offices of the tribal sheikhs and elders," the UN body tweeted earlier Saturday.

Libya: ICC concludes third visit to investigate Haftar's crimes

24 Dec 2020; MEMO: The International Criminal Court (ICC) has concluded its third visit to Libya on Wednesday to investigate the crimes committed in the country by the militia of General Khalifa Haftar.

According to a statement issued by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "The team of the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has completed its third visit to Libya, as part of documenting crimes committed against civilians."

Libya presidential council denies asking Haftar to nominate a PM

23 Dec 2020; MEMO: The Presidential Council of Libya yesterday denied media reports claiming its head and Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, had sent a letter to renegade General Khalifa Haftar asking him to nominate a prime minister, Anadolu news agency reported.
