Iran allocates funds to import COVID-19 vaccines; Kuwait starts national vaccination campaign

CAIRO, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran said on Thursday that it has allocated funds to buy COVID-19 vaccines from abroad as the obstacles created by U.S. sanctions have been removed. Meanwhile, Kuwait kicked off its national vaccination campaign.

Iranian Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati said that Iran has allocated 200 million euros (243.73 million U.S. dollars) for importing the vaccines.

Egyptian president discusses Palestinian cause with Jordanian, Palestinian FMs

CAIRO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi discussed on Saturday the efforts to resume the Middle East peace process with foreign ministers of Jordan and Palestine.

During a meeting in Cairo, President Sisi affirmed to the Jordanian and Palestinian foreign ministers that his country will continue its tireless efforts to solve the Palestinian cause, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

Egypt officials: Bombs kill 3 security forces in Sinai

EL-ARISH, Egypt (AP) — Two roadside bombs exploded in restive northern Sinai Peninsula killing three members of Egypt’s security forces and wounding 10 others, officials said Friday.

The bombs went off near separate checkpoints in the town of Sheikh Zuweid late Thursday, said two security officials and a medical official, who asked to remain anonymous because they were not authorized to brief the media.

Egypt’s parliament ratifies deal on strategic cooperation with Russia

CAIRO, December 16. /TASS/: The parliament of Egypt ratified on Tuesday a deal on comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation with Russia, the Al Ahram newspaper reported.

In a Facebook post, the Russian embassy welcomed the move as "an important step toward developing friendly relations between Russia and Egypt, which are based on deep traditions of friendship, mutual warm feeling between our peoples and bilateral intention to boost cooperation."

Egypt detains another minister from Morsi's cabinet

14 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Egyptian authorities have detained Abdul-Latif Shehab, transportation minister in the cabinet of late President Mohamed Morsi, local media reported on Saturday evening.

Abdul-Latif, who was detained from his house east of Cairo, is the second minister from Morsi's cabinet to be detained in the space of one week over claims of joining the "banned" Muslim Brotherhood.

Egypt Calls For Comprehensive Solution To Crisis Between Arab Quartet, Qatar

CAIRO, Dec 9 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt called for a comprehensive solution to the years-long rift between Qatar and the Arab quartet of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain.

In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said, Egypt values the ongoing efforts by Kuwait, to end the crisis that has lasted several years between Qatar and the Arab quartet.

Evangelical Association in Egypt sets up school to treat homosexuality

08 Dec 2020; MEMO:  The Evangelical Association in Egypt has set up a school to "treat" homosexuality, reports the Egypt Independent.

Pastor Tony George, who works for the Evangelicals Association in Egypt and the Middle East, said that homosexuality has its roots in childhood trauma and that the school will help people on the path to change.

"Recovering from homosexuality is not impossible," he said.
