Arab League warns of Israel settlement expansion

05 Nov 2021; MEMO: Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, yesterday warned of the expansion of Israel's settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories and the absence of a clear path to end the conflict.

This came during a meeting with the United Nations envoy to the peace process, Tor Wennesland, in Cairo.

Egypt court renews detention of Aboul Fotouh, Ola Qaradawi

04 Nov 2021; MEMO: An Egyptian court has renewed the detention of the head of the Strong Egypt Party, Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, for allegedly broadcasting and publishing false news and statements.

Aboul Fotouh, who has also been accused of participating in a terror group, was not present during the trial, according to his lawyer Ahmed Abu Al-Ela Madi.

The court rejected his lawyer's attempts to postpone the court session even though the law stipulates defendants must appear in person at their renewal sessions.

Saudi approves Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for age group 5-11

CAIRO, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The Saudi Food and Drug Authority said on Wednesday it had given its approval to use Pfizer's (PFE.N) COVID-19 vaccine for those between five and eleven years of age.

The authority added in a statement its decision was "based on data provided by the company, which showed the vaccine met the special regulatory requirements".

Egypt to start moving gov't to new administrative capital in December: statement

CAIRO, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi instructed on Wednesday the Egyptian government to move offices to a new administrative capital, the presidency office said in a statement.

"The Egyptian government will start the process in December of moving offices to a new administrative capital for six-month trial," said Bassam Rady, spokesman of the presidency.

The move will start after the ongoing preparations for the government buildings and headquarters are finished, he said.

Egypt court lifts freeze on Mubarak sons' assets

03 Nov 2021; MEMO: The Economic Court of Egypt yesterday issued a final ruling to lift the asset freeze on the two sons of the late President Hosni Mubarak after they were acquitted of illicit share trading last year.

The decision allows Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, as well as Gamal's wife, Khadiga El-Gammal, and his children Mahmoud and Farida access to their assets.

Egypt, U.S. naval forces conduct joint exercises in Red Sea

CAIRO, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian and U.S. naval forces have conducted a joint drill within the range of Southern Fleet in the Red Sea, the armed forces said in a statement on Monday.

The activities took place with the participation of the Egyptian frigate "Alexandria" and the U.S. amphibious ship USS Portland, it said.

"The drills are part of the Egyptian Armed Forces' efforts to promote military relations and exchange of expertise with different countries," according to the statement.

UN chief to Sudan army: Reverse coup, take heed of protests

CAIRO (AP) — The U.N. secretary general urged Sudan’s generals on Sunday to reverse their takeover of the country, a day after tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the largest pro-democracy protest since last week’s coup.

Antonio Guterres said the generals should “take heed” of Saturday’s protests. “Time to go back to the legitimate constitutional arrangements,” he said in a tweet.

Sudan security forces shoot dead 2 protesters, doctors say

CAIRO (AP) — Sudanese security forces shot dead two people Saturday during mass protests against the country’s recent military coup, a doctors’ union said. The shootings came despite repeated appeals by the West to Sudan’s new military rulers to show restraint and allow peaceful protests.

Thousands of Sudanese have taken to the streets, where whistles and drums accompany chants of “revolution, revolution” in protest of Monday’s coup, which threatens to derail the country’s fitful transition to democracy.

Egypt Announces Three Oil, Gas Discoveries In Western Desert

CAIRO, Oct 27 (NNN-MENA) – Italian multinational oil and gas company, Eni, made three oil and gas discoveries in Egypt’s Western Desert, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced yesterday.

“Eni made three new discoveries in the Meleiha Development Concession and south-west of Meleiha, in Egypt’s Western Desert,” the ministry said in a statement.

Egypt: Threat message causes Moscow-bound flight to return to Cairo: statement

CAIRO, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- A Moscow-bound EgyptAir flight returned to Cairo shortly after takeoff on Wednesday due to a threatening message found onboard, the airlines said in a statement.

"Flight MS728 has returned safely to Cairo International Airport some 22 minutes after takeoff. The flight was heading to the Russian capital," EgyptAir, the flag carrier of Egypt, said in the statement.

"The written message was found on a seat of the Airbus A220-300," it added.

All the passengers arrived safely and necessary measures have been taken, it noted.
