CAIRO, May 21 (Xinhua) -- The Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit condemned on Tuesday the Houthis bids for attacking Islam's holiest city Mecca with two ballistic missiles, the AL said in statement.

"Such terrorists actions constitute dangerous threat not only for the security and stability of the kingdom, but also for the regional security in general," Aboul Gheit said.

He pointed out those attacks are violation for the sacredness of the holy places in the holy month of Ramadan.

CAIRO, May 15 (Xinhua): Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi attended on Wednesday the opening of Rod al-Farag Axis Bridge, the widest suspension bridge in the world, state-run Nile TV reported.

"Egypt is seeking to carry out public projects in the shortest possible time to save money and effort," al-Sisi said in his address at the inauguration ceremony.

The construction of the bridge was implemented by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority (AFEA) in cooperation with a number of national companies.

Jaipur, May 2 (PTI) A special camp for providing Jaipur Foot to 500 disabled people began in Egyptian city of Asyut on Thursday.

The camp was organised by the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) in association with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Egyptian government.

24 Apr 2019; DW: National Election Authority head Lashin Ibrahim told a Cairo press conference on Tuesday that of the 44.33% of Egypt's voters who turned out to cast their ballots during the three-day referendum, 88.83% of them approved the amendments.

"These (changes) are effective from now as your constitution," Ibrahim said.

Almost 27 million votes were cast out of an eligible base of 61 million voters.

17 Apr 2019; AFP: Egypt's parliament on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved constitutional amendments allowing general-turned-president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to stay in power until 2030, state media reported.

Deputies also backed other sweeping changes to the constitution including to give the military greater influence in political life as well as granting Sisi more control over the judiciary.

ISMAILIA, Egypt, April 10 (Xinhua) -- "Guo Moruo Cultural Week" kicked off on Wednesday at the Confucius Institute of Suez Canal University in Ismailia in northeastern Egypt.

The second "Guo Moruo" Chinese Modern Poetry Reading Competition, which is the highlight of the event, was held right after the opening ceremony.

The contesting students came from the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo and the Confucius institutes and language colleges of nine universities nationwide, including the universities of Cairo, Ain Shams, Al-Azhar, Suez Canal and Fayoum.

CAIRO, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Secretary-General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called Friday on all Libyan parties to practice self-restraint and immediately de-escalate the military situation in the western areas of the country.

In a statement, the AL chief also urged the Libyan parties to abide by the political path as the only solution to the Libyan crisis.

CAIRO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- China's Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College, Tianjin Transportation Vocational College and Egypt's Ain Shams University on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Egypt Luban Workshop in Cairo, Egypt.

Luban workshop is the first project of international cooperation on vocational training supported by China's Tianjin Municipality, which aims at improving academic education of top technical talents and serving the local economy and society via vocational training.

CAIRO, March 30 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian court sentenced on Saturday 30 defendants up to 25 years in prisons over terrorist charges and affiliation with the Islamic State (IS) militant group, official MENA news agency reported.

Cairo Criminal Court sentenced 18 defendants to 25 years, eight to 15 years and four others to 10 years for being convicted of joining the IS, possessing explosives and attempting to blow up a church in the seaside province of Alexandria.

CAIRO (AP) — A leading Egyptian pro-democracy activist was freed from prison early Friday after serving a five-year sentence for inciting and taking part in protests, his family and lawyer said. The terms of his release, however, require that he report to a police station every day for the next five years.
